Hi All,

I bought an used NDS Lite on a Dutch website and it works perfectly fine. The only thing that has come to my attention is that when I charge the NDS Lite the orange light will come on suggesting that it is charging. Then after a while the light turns off which would normally mean that it is done charging. However, when I then pull out the charging cable and put in back in, the orange light turns on again and remains lit for a while. This all happens when the NDS was not powered on.

Does this suggest that the battery is malfunctioning or is it another known problem?
Is there somebody who can help me with this?

Tnx beforehand

that is a normal behavior... the console tries to charge but takes some time to realize its fully charged.. this happens in plenty of rechargeable battery stuff..

or you mean the console doesn't turn on or works normally?

play with the console, see if it lasts the around the normal time which is quoting wikipedia:
15–19 hours on the lowest brightness setting
5–8 hours on the brightest
(1000 mAh)[29]

if it lasts for example just 1-2 hours or less, get a new battery for it

PS: hope ya using a first party (official) charger, those are always better

That means like the whole DS family that the battery is fully charged , the only thing to test if the battery is failing is by leaving the console on and wait to see How much time before it shuts off

I didn't notice that all DSs do this until i was testing an aftermarket chinese battery in my DS lite. Now that I have used it a bunch I get quite a few hours out of it, but not nearly as many as an OEM battery.

There is a chemical/battery charging principle that may explain your observations. At the same time it is not impossible that it is also a battery on the way out.

If you ever looked up how batteries actually charge it can be quite complex, more than just "put final voltage on, wait" and you get sections of various voltages, constant current, temperature sensing/voltage sensing leading to different actions. To keep it in simpler terms then the battery here has a little chance to relax down to a slightly lower voltage or cool down, the charge circuit then sees this and thinks it can squeeze a bit more in as it is not "fully charged" and thus the light comes back on.

For the latter if one of the internal cells that makes up the battery has died then it might go over voltage or say it has finished charging. This is part of the reason why some devices will say "full charge" or at least high charge and then drop like a stone not long after that, the total lifetime probably then being far less than it was when things were all good. That would also be how you tell, or if you have the ability to see heat then can also be used as you will tend to see one of the cells in the battery being a rather different temperature (usually hotter) to the rest..

Say this is the case, where can I purchase a good battery? A lot of junk on the market from what I have seen.
Thereby, I have not tested it yet explicitly, since I only use a EZFLASH IV which consumes some more battery then most normal cartridges (and from what I have read the new Omega should consume even more battery). Hence, the battery lasts for some time, but I do not think that it holds the 15-19 hours on lowest brightness. Or does it hold for so long with you guys?

Haha tnx for the technical explanation that sounds quite logical indeed.

I think I need a new battery, since I just sat in the train for two hours and with the brightness on second level while playing on EZFlash Omega, the battery red light already came on... such a shame!

Do you know where I can get a good battery, since I have seen a lot of fakes around on the web?
