Gaming Cave Story eshop, holiday themes?

I loaded Cave Story through Masher's HBL, and my character skin was black with red eyes, same with Curly. Is this a thing or did I bug out my game? I've read about holiday reskins for the Wiiware version.

Isn't cave story emulated with retroarch nxengine? so it falls under emulators and not eshop?

Those are holidays specials, they only appears like that in these days

It's the same as the Wiiware version. It does this on/near Halloween. There's also a similar one on Christmas.
