'Caravan Sandwitch' gets release window

caravan game.jpg

Revealed a few months ago, Caravan Sandwitch is a cozy, semi-open world narrative-driven exploration adventure with landscapes drawing inspiration from Provence, in the south of France. Publisher Dear Villagers and developer Studio Plane Toast have today revealed the launch window for the game and aired a new trailer for the occasion:

With an emphasis on inclusivity and environmental themes, the life in Caravan Sandwitch is simple: no combat, no death, no timer, just you, your van, and the world.

Key features of Caravan Sandwitch include:
  • Explore a Provence-like World: Equipped with your van and an array of essential tools, you set out on a quest to find your missing sister. Upgrade your van throughout your adventure and explorations to open up new passages and ruins. From navigating treacherous terrain to uncovering ancient ruins, every step of your journey brings you closer to unraveling the truth behind your sister's disappearance.
  • An hopeful Post-Apocalypse: From a green planet to a desertic one due to human activities and sur-exploitation; discover on Cigalo the impact of humans and its population through your road trip. Meet the Reinetos, an old aboriginal species, the Robots left behind after the planet exploitation, the humans who stayed after everyone left for another planet, and the mysterious SandWitch. All of them live peacefully in Cigalo and help each other in this unwelcome environment.
  • Meet a diverse cast of characters: As you interact with the diverse characters you meet along the way, you'll come to understand that your community is your home. Help everyone and contribute your piece to the edifice, enabling everyone to live in harmony in an environment hostile to all civilizations due to over-exploitation.
  • A Game developed for All: Plane Toast made a huge effort to create a game in which everyone can feel included, representing their vision of a world where communities help each other to overcome the environmental consequences of our world.Caravan SandWitch is written with an inclusive script, that represents a real community with its people and representation.
  • Accessibility options are available.
Caravan Sandwitch will launch this September on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PS5 and Nintendo Switch.

I don't want to be mean and negative but these guys are not good at trailers at all. 😬

What does this actually tell somebody about the game? What could they expect from it? I know that's for them to investigate further if they're interested, true, but a trailer is supposed to hook people. I see no hook, I feel no hook.

i played the demo for this during the last steam next fest where it had a demo and... it wasn't good

my expectations may have been set too high because of pacific drive, but the vehicle controls in this game feel like an afterthought, it just feels like a moon rover or just a basic "get from point A to point B machine" or something
the camera controls were also... really bad and jittery, which i don't expect to change since from experience i've seen these kinds of things not get fixed from prologue/demo to release

The announcement trailer was slightly better, but not by much. Pretty much consisted of driving around a desert and exploring random buildings with seemingly no relevance to anything. Truthfully, games like this are usually a snore-fest for me so I'm probably passing on it.

Not to mention that having to put "representation" as a key feature usually means it's going to be a very forced feeling representation, therefore bad representation. But that's just from my personal experience.

yeah, pointing out "representation" and "diversity" as a FEATURE seems to be a huge red flag these days

"a game developed for all is a game developed for nobody"

edit: i looked more into the game and the practices of the devs/company behind it... i won't be supporting this game in the slightest.

Meet a diverse cast of characters
Games have always had variety of different characters, but now we're gonna pretend it's something new and innovative?

A Game developed for All
Games are developed for all. You know, customers.

Having these as "features" is just stupid.

Not to nitpick...
An hopeful Post-Apocalypse
An hopeful? That honestly doesn't sound right. "A hopeful" is what I'd go with.

gta isn't for everyone, it's not for people who aren't into open world games, violent games, third person shooters, games made by scummy companies, people who don't like driving in games, probably many many more that i can't list

it's focus is more "hardcore" gaming audiences who are into shooters

for example, by trying to make this game for "everyone" it's excluding people who want a more focused exploration/survival/driving game, like pacific drive, by trying to "include" more people into it and watering down every single other mechanic in the game

I feel like that is most game trailers nowdays

Try learning more about any of the gamepass games on pc/xbox the description is usually a hodgepodge of random words just for SEO and the trailer is usually some random cinematic or like just the main character walking around random different areas

Here is a good example.
Check out Dungeons Of Hinterberg on Xbox Game Pass!

If just roaming around in GTA, it doesn't have to be violent per say, you could just drive or fly around, and that's enjoyable.

It actually sucks that PS4 never got a port of GTA IV so I'm stuck to GTA V. 😕

Mickey, you're lucky we aren't worm food after your last performance. Buying a tart's mobile palace is a little f***ing rich.'

it will be (from the look of it on steam) you basically just drive around looking for people to do quests for than you get out and climb around a few structures with an occasional zip line and puzzle and that's about it

Life is simple: no combat, no death, no timer, just you, your van, and the world.
and NO ME

"No death, no timer"

If humans were granted immortality life would be pretty boring. I'm not saying death is good, it's just part of life, as is being born.
