Capcom ending all services and support for Resident Evil RE:Verse on June 29th, 2025

One of the only multiplayer Resident Evil games, Resident Evil RE:Verse, will shut down its online services later this year.

Official Resident Evil accounts have announced today that Resident Evil RE:Verse, which comes pre-packaged with purchases of Resident Evil Village (RE8), will end all of its services and support on June 29th, 2025. RE:Verse was originally developed as a celebration of 25 years of the Resident Evil franchise back in 2022, and after more than 2 years online, it will finally shut down.

The game can still be purchased alongside RE8, but starting on March 3rd, 2025, the game will be removed from digital stores, as well as all of the game's DLC, which includes:
  • Jill Skin: Battle Suit (Resident Evil 5)
  • Chris Skin: Gun Show (Resident Evil 5)
  • Claire Skin: Leather Jacket (Resident Evil Revelations 2)
  • Hunk Skin: Grim Reaper (The Mercenaries 3D)
  • Ada Skin: Still Kicking (The Umbrella Chronicles)
  • Leon Skin: Leather Jacket (Resident Evil 6)
  • Creature Skin: Super Tyrant 1998 (Resident Evil 2)
  • Creature Skin: Hunter γ (Resident Evil Outbreak)
  • Premium Pass
  • RP Booster x3
  • RP Booster x10
  • RP Booster x50
Once the deadline is met, the game won't be included alongside Resident Evil Village anymore, and players who previously owned the title won't be able to play the game.

Thank you for playing Resident Evil Re:Verse.

This is to inform you that service will be ending for Resident Evil Re:Verse, which comes packaged with a purchase of Resident Evil Village for PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, or Steam. The application and all of its related DLC will no longer be available for download or purchase.

Resident Evil Re:Verse was developed in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Resident Evil series, and your overwhelming support for the game has far exceeded our expectations since the time of its release. Now that we've reached a new turning point for the series, we feel that Resident Evil Re:Verse has served its original, celebratory purpose admirably.

We are incredibly grateful for your warm support for Resident Evil Re:Verse, and we deeply apologize for bringing you this disappointing news.
Please see the schedule below for information regarding the end of service for the game.

There have been a bunch of online RE games in the last few gens, right? Operation Raccoon City comes to mind.

I'm still bummed I didn't experience Outbreak 1 and 2 on the PS2 back in the day, so I'd be down for ports of those two.

Correct.
Operation Raccoon City was one, both Outbreaks also had online play, and there's also Resistance which was a forced included game with RE3 Remake iirc, and now also RE:Verse with RE8. Other main titles also had online play for their campaigns, but it was never the main focus, like RE5, RE6, and both Revelations titles.

But the difference here is that both Resistance and RE:Verse are online-only games, kinda like live-service if you will, so once servers go down, the whole game becomes unplayable.

So far Capcom has consistently pump out game after game every year without losses so to speak, but still chases after the live service dream for their RE franchise

Yes, I forgot Resistance! I thought there was at least one other online multiplayer game besides Operation Raccoon City and RE:Verse. Thanks for the reminder.

You're right, there has been some multiplayer features thrown in here and there. In fact, I've been told RE6 is not a very fun without a second player. I played about an hour of RE6, and I can see that.

Having that been said, playing through RE6 with a second player is on my massive to-do list.

I went through the vast majority of RE6 twice alone, and it's fun enough for single player, but without a doubt it's way more fun with another player joining in.
Thankfully, having players join in randomly is still a thing for older RE titles, and RE6 is no exception, so you can still do so.
I played with people online when I was unlocking the Serpent Emblems, and almost each time I got someone to help me out with those, amazing people. :D

Even though it may be a while before I actually start tackling my backlog, I appreciate that the RE community remains strong. I'm sure I'll still find people to play RE6 with, when I finish my studies.

As much of a RE fan as I am, I never played this or had any interest in playing it. Capcom, give us fans what we want: remaster the Mega Man Legends games and make a new one; more games like Mega Man Battle Network/Star Force; remasters of Dino Crisis 1 & 2 and Resident Evil Outbreak. Again, I don't need another Super Hyper Ultra Mega Uber Deluxe Street Fighter Hyper Mega Edition.

Didn't even know about this game's existence, and it being Resident Evil Online kinda doesn't sit with me. I don't know if the quality was good or not, and if it was, I do feel bad for the discontinuation of it. But I can imagine "nobody saw this coming and is moving on with their daily lives." I'm one of those people.

Never even heard of it until this post... That's how successful it was.
It came bundled with RE8, was pretty much an extra mode rather than a game unto itself. Not like Capcom was banking heavily on its success or something.
