Hey guys, I noticed with any of the latest versions of Snes9X GX, Visual Boy GX, etc.. the DVD option doesn't work. I've done what they've said and installed the DVDx Dol and I'm using the latest CIOS36 rev 7. Is there a special folder structure that these DVD's need to be in now? The dvd's were burt at ISO9660 + Joilet which I think is correct. Any help would greatly be appreciated as I'm stumped.

works for me, don't know why you have problems

It's weird it's not just my system, but I try and run it on everyone's system that I put the HBC on. I'm not sure if I'm missing something. Can someone please list the exact steps to get this to work?

I've never tried loading ROMS from the DVD drive before - l've got a 4GB SD card and have plenty of room. In any event l'm burning a test disc now and l'll report back. I'm testing with just a straight up data write using imgburn, which you can download for free here.

The media l'm using is a standard DVD-R (Generic HP Brand).

I'll edit the post later with my findings.

-----[[Edit]]------------
Just tested it and it works fine for me... What error message are you getting? What emulator are you using when attempting to mount the DVD drive? How are you buring your ROMS to the DVD media?

Did you install dvdx on the normal IOS?
What error are you getting?

This info is for vbagx, snesgx and fceugx

Error opening archive! - I got this error when there are too many files on a single directory.

Unknown game image! - Probably the compression settings isn't supported:
zip_normal - Loads correctly.
zip_best - Unknown game image!

also, .rar doesn't work.

No I installed it after I installed CIOS36 rev 7.

The error message that I keep getting is "Invalid DVD. Press A to continue."

Does the DVD structure have to have a snesgx\roms folder to work properly?

I should also mention I have a Wii-key installed into my Wii. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. :-\

The data dvd you're storing roms on must be standard iso 9660 format, not UDF, not Joliet, not long filename support, just straight up iso 9660. It may truncate a lot of your rom names to 8-charachter dos-compatible style filenames so you may want to use a batch renaming program such as DfileMU or manually rename the games that start out witht he same 8 letters so you can seperate between them without a ~1 - ~9 at the end.

Okay I'll give that a shot, thanks! BTW is there a limit to how many Roms the emulator can read from the DVD. I reading somewhere that you couldn't put over 1000 on there. I guess breaking them up into subfolders would work?

I've tried what you've suggested and it still doesn't work. I'm not sure what exactly is wrong here. They load fine off of the SD card but DVD is a no go.

Regards,

I keep getting "Invalid DVD Media. Press A to Continue" I've tried both methods using ISO9660 with and without Joilet. Nothing seems to work.

Solution found.

I uninstalled IOS36 rev 7, uninstalled DVDX. Had PachMii install, then installed DVDX with the PatchMii option. Now it reads. Thanks to those who tried to help me out!

I was just doing a search to find a solution to this problem and i came across this thread.. I would like to add a bit of confusion to this.. i am having the same problem... the only difference is when i use the visual boy emulator with the roms on a realtek printable disc it reads the disc fine, but i'm trying to use phillips lightscribe discs to store the roms for the other emulators and i get invalid dvd.. now this is where it gets really weird as the lightscribe discs work for my games that i have made backups of.. anyone figure that one out??

The problem for you is IOS9660 + Joilet. Burn it without Joilet, just IOS9660. It works then perfectly.

Edit: Damm, too late..

that definitely the problem then?? cool.. i should have known that because the wii supports fat.. i was just trying to use windows vista to copy and paste but that burns udf and then i used nero express but that by default is udf.. so i'll have to bring out ol faithful nero burning rom.. lol.. this is off the subject and should probably be posted in another forum but does anyone know if it's possible to change explorer burning support to a different format?

I would recommend you IMGBurn, a great App to burn something. It's also free

. There you only have to go to "Write Files to disc", drag your files in (no Folders, just the ROMS or MP3s, etc...), and under "Options" choose "ISO9660"...you're done.
