Fixed it! 🥹 So after I had tried pretty much everything that came to mind that could cause my MKGP injects not to work (as summarized in the original post in case you’re looking for troubleshooting ideas when your GameCube/ Triforce games are booting to a black screen/ turning the console off 🫶🏼), I finally had the idea if the hdd I‘m using (Maxone, very reliable for Wii U other than in this incident) might be too slow to handle the triforce arcade games!

I didn’t think of this at first bc I was so fixated on the idea that my setup or injects must be the problem and besides, my GameCube titles all work perfectly on the hdd that‘s attached to my white Wii U. So I did an experiment: On my black childhood Wii U (yes, we have two in our household 😭🫠), I tried to install the injects I made to the hdd I‘m using there (Intenso, also a reliable brand that I recommend for Wii U USB storage!) to see if they work there and bingo, immediately launched the game without any problem! 🥹

This confirmed that in fact my other hdd was causing the issue, so on the white Wii U, I simply installed the MKGP injects to NAND and there we go, working like a charm! 🫶🏼 I hope this post might help anyone who’s encountering a black screen when trying to launch GameCube/ Triforce titles too! :)

Original post:

Hi, this is my first time posting on GBAtemp so I hope I set up my post correctly! :) Does anyone have experience with injecting Mario Kart GP 1 and 2 as virtual console titles to Wii U with uwuvci + Nintendon’t and if so, could you possibly share your experience and how you set it up please? 🥹 Any help will be so appreciated, thank you in advance!!

I’ve never experienced any issues with creating uwuvci and specifically gamecube injects before until now: I wanted to create injects of the triforce arcade titles Mario Kart GP 1 and 2 because I saw other Wii U users create injects of them successfully and would reaally love to play them on my Wii U. Sadly I couldn’t get any injects of them to work yet: The first attempts did boot into vWii as intended, but lead to the console turning itself off.

So I tried several things to fix it that helped me with uwuvci related Nintendon’t problems in the past:

- Replacing the “nincfg.bin” file on the root of my SD with a new one
- Replacing the Nintendon’t folder to make sure it’s updated and no randomly faulty file in there
- Tried different ISO dumps in case I used a bad one
- Checked the “saves” folder on the SD Card in case one attempt to boot them created a faulty save file (randomly happened to me with a GameCube title once and after I removed it, the game worked! Highly suggest you to check this out in case you ever have a GameCube inject that won’t boot :) )

Those ideas didn’t fix it, but today I observed the “saves” folder again and finally noticed a file called “GGPE” that took up 0 KB - looked it up and there we go, title id of Mario Kart GP! Deleted it and tried new MKGP injects I made: Now they no longer turn the console off (yaayy), but still don’t launch the game and get stuck on a black screen. :/

What else could be wrong about my setup? Do the Triforce games require some sort of BIOS to run in Nintendon’t? Is there any Nintendon’t setting I have to enable in order for them to work? I did enable “TRI Arcade Mode” but from my understanding, it isn’t required and simply brings back the arcade feeling by having to insert coins, right?

Or is there anything important I need to do when injecting triforce games in uwuvci? I have an european Wii U console and used an european base (Rhythm Heaven Fever) to inject an US region ISO of the games, do I need to use an US base or different base game for them to work? It shouldn’t matter because it uses Nintendon’t but at this point I’m questioning everything about my setup lol. 🫠 I will keep trying and create new injects but any help or advice would be very much appreciated! Have been trying to get them to work by myself for days but I just don’t have any more ideas on what could be wrong. :( Have a wonderful day! 🫶🏼

Can you write how you did set the Injection up step by step on PC? I dont seem to be able to get it up running
Hi, I’ll try my best to help you getting it to work too. :) What exactly is happening on your side? Does your inject also boot to a black screen/ turn the console off or doesn’t it let you create an inject in the first place?

Here’s how I injected it: In UWUVCI AIO, you click on the GameCube section and use Rhythm Heaven Fever as base (very reliable base for GameCube injects but others like Super Paper Mario may also work).

I don’t know if this part is needed, but I’ll add it regardless: If you haven’t made injects before, you’ll have to enter the Wii U’s Common Key by clicking on “Enter CKey”, you can use your Wii U backup’s otp.bin file for that. Then click on “Enter TKey” to enter the Title Key of the selected base, some research online will help with this step. ;) Afterwards you will want to download the base by clicking the download button and then you’re all set for creating the inject!

Now to the main part: In “ROM Path” you choose the ISO of Mario Kart GP 1/ 2, just like you would with an actual GameCube game. If you encounter issues with your injects later on, I highly recommend to try several ISOs of the games to make sure you’re using a working one without corruption!

Then you can add any image you want on “Icon Image” that’ll show up in your Wii U Menu (if you’re interested in neat icons I made for GP 1 and 2, I can provide these! :) ) and a TV image that will show up while booting the game + fill in the name, release date and amount of players on “TV Image”. Lastly, you add the name in “Game Name”, so up until now you treat it like any other GameCube inject.

Once all settings are set to your likings, click on “Inject”, wait for it to finish, then on “WUP installable” to either install it with the Wii U homebrew apps WUP Installer GX2 or NUSspli later on. Once it says, “Injection Complete”, either click on “Open Folder” to save it or, if you have your Wii U’s SD Card inserted, “SD Setup” to immediately move it to your SD Card’s “install” folder.

If you choose “SD Setup”, it’ll prompt you to add Nintendon’t + its required configuration file “nincfg.bin” to the SD Card too if I remember correctly, however if this doesn’t work for whatever reason, you can also do it this way: Click on settings (the little gear icon in the top right corner) > Start Nintendon’t Config Tool

The “Nintendon’t SD Card Menu” will appear, here you can enable any setting you wish to use for Nintendon’t, most importantly Memcard emulation to save your games, and download the latest Nintendon’t release to your SD Card!

I have these settings enabled for my set up:
- Memcard Emulation (59 Memcard Blocks)
- Force Widescreen
- Wii U Widescreen
- Auto Video With (enabled by default)
- TRI Arcade Mode (not required to run the Triforce Arcade games but it allows you to insert coins and unlock everything by yourself like on the actual arcade machine! If it’s not enabled, everything will be unlocked from the beginning and you’ll have infinite coins. Personally I recommend to turn it on! ;) )

Then click on “Generate Nintendon’t Config File” while your SD is in your PC and then it’ll add the config file to its root! Make sure you’re using the latest Nintendon’t to avoid issues, I highly suggest downloading it using UWUVCI’s Nintendon’t tool as described here!

Then you should be able to install it to your Wii U and launch it! 🥹 If it gets stuck on a black screen or even turns the console off, here are some troubleshooting ideas :

- Check if any attempt to launch the games caused a faulty 0KB save file (“GP1.bin / GP2.bin”) in the “saves” folder on the root of your SD Card. For me this caused the Wii U to turn itself off, so once I deleted the weird save file, that issue was fixed!

- Where are you installing the games to? If you’re installing to an USB storage, then it might be too slow to properly launch those two titles (happened to one of my HDDs although GameCube titles work fine on it). You can either try to install it to another USB storage or to NAND where it should definitely boot - unless there’s an issue with the ISO itself or Nintendon’t/ the config file missing!

- If you still can’t get it to work, make sure you have Nintendon’t in the right place of your SD Card (on the root of the SD Card, there should be a folder called “apps” containing the “Nintendon’t” folder) and the nincfg.bin file on the root as well!

- If these didn’t work, then it might be the ISO file that’s corrupt or not compatible, so it’s really worth trying several ones for your injections!

I hope these instructions help! If you’re still having trouble, let me know and describe what’s going wrong. Maybe I can think of more ideas that could help solve your issue, it’s really trial and error with injects sometimes. :) Have a wonderful day!
