I know it's a stupid question... but can you brick your wii for hacking online? (eg: Mario Kart Wii codes online)

Nintendo isn't allowed to brick consoles through the Internet.

But as said before, cheaters DO ruin the fun of the game.

It may be possible to block consoles via their friend id's... dunno, and there are apparently ways to change that too.

They can ban the console, but not brick it. A banned console will give error 20102 when trying to connect. I've seen game bans and console bans.

You can unban the console yourself though.

Best advice to avoid the hassle of being banned? Don't cheat online.

There are ways to get bricked as it was an issue on the psp for a while, know who to trust with installers and read up on what your working with. There are people that think it's funny to brick you if you don't educate your self in everything you do and I remember a few PRX's floating around (In the PSP Scene) that were designed to do just that and unless you knew what you were doing with the flash it might as well be an expensive paper weight.

There is always a chance you'll do it to your self and at that point we all know that there's nothing worse than knowing you didn't pay attention to detail but I know a few people that are advanced users and have been working with home brew on a few platforms that make simple mistakes and all you can do is hope that it didn't cost you a system or worse. I'm not saying this next thing is right by any means and not saying that I know of any on the Wii but back doors are everywhere and I did have a friend that wrote a few we'll say apps for the sake of the post that watched for specific cheats installed on a particular system and if they were active it would brick the system.

This community has been around for a long time though and you can tell who's trust worthy anywhere if you pay attention to what's going on but there are more quality programmers that enjoy what they do for the benefit of learning over anything else in the Wii community so I wouldn't worry as much on elicit proggies as you should to instructions but usually a question like this one comes around after some one has been in a game and some one else told them that they were going to hack the other and brick their system. This is not possible for many reasons but like I said unless you installed something that some one sent you and they make the threat you have nothing to worry about.

I hope this helps and good luck.

well neither did I but otoh I dont use cheats

the cheats work by overwriting memory
whatever is written to nand is in memory at some time
thus it can be corrupted by a cheat by accident or malice

and there wasent a lack of either in the last two decades of coding
and theres a lot of hate for cheaters too

    I just would be cautious

What is on the NAND will eventually end up in memory when it gets accessed. However, the reverse is not necessarily true. What is in RAM will not necessarily end up on the NAND. The only way a cheat would end up on the NAND is if a game puts it there (e.g. saving your game while cheating).

I have NEVER seen cheating brick a wii. I've only seen them corrupt your save files (fixable by deleting the save), and get you banned online.
