Not right now. I think the limit is 2GB.

From what I understand, the R4 DS and M3 Simply cannot use any SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) cards, which is a requirement/standard/whatever of the 4gb cards. At this point in time (and more than likely from here on out) the max capacity of a standard MicroSD card is 2gb.

    Hope this helps,

From what I saw on wikipedia, microsd non-hc can go up to 4gb. But I've never saw one of those..

If it says MicroSDHC or anything about High Capacity (that's what the HC stands for) then you can not use it with the R4
If it just says MicroSD it should work.

Nope. That guy who claims to hold a 4GB can be lying.

I've heard that the standardized spec for SD only goes to 2gig, but there were some companies that went under the TransFlash designation that pushed non-SDHC cards to 4gig, though I've never actually seen one. I've also heard they were dog slow if you DID manage to find one.

SDHC or Secure Digital High Capacity is the new standard for SD cards that can be larger than 2gigs (32gigs is the theoretical max for SDHC, I believe), but it's not compatible with anything that doesn't explicitly say it supports SDHC. SDHC cards use a different method for reading and writing than non-SDHC cards, though anything that supports SDHC is backwards compatible with non-SDHC cards.

    At least, that's my understanding.

The R4 is not SDHC compliant, so you're limited to a 2gig max. I don't think it ever will be capable of larger (unless you manage to find one of those elusive non-SDHC 4gig cards, which, I suspect, have been discontinued as non-compliant to SD standards), but who knows what those wizards that are the R4 team might be able to pull off in a future firmware update. Though I feel it's unlikely that the R4 will ever support SDHC without some kind of hardware upgrade because the R4's firmwares are software based and don't physically change anything in the R4 itself.

Did that make any freakin' sense at all?

I know wikipedia is hardly a bastion of truth, but that page says microsd goes as far as 4GB, which was my understanding from other (can't be bothered to rake them out now) sources.

That said, i've never seen one larger than 2GB, but i'd buy one if i could find one.

Assuming the form-factor of the sdhc cards is the same, and they physically fit the R4, then it's reasonable to think that a software update would render them usable.

2gb is still quite a lot. You could fit many games on it, or even a lot of episodes.

    From http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/pdf/retail/SDHC1.pdf

"Be aware of non-SDA 2.00 specification compliant SD 4GB, miniSD 4GB, and microSD 4GB cards on the market."

Sounds like someone is/was making a 4GB microSD, but the doc goes on to say they're unreliable (but maybe that's sandisk propaganda).

2GB is a lot, i've got 23 games (from 8-128MB), 3 albums, 5 homebrew apps, 2 films, and about 100 ebooks on so far, with 132MB left.

    That's a MicroSD HC card.

Notice the HC logo on the bottom right of the card.

well then why does the TF that comes with the R4 say it can hold up to 4GB.. why would they make a TF that holds up to 4GB if R4 can't?

The R4DS can hold Non-SDHC 4GB Micro SD card..

4GB Micro SD cards that don't go with the official SD standard specification
