Can the disc drive PCB touch the motherboard?

I'm attempting to make a wii laptop and I've taken out the disc drive but left the circuit board from it connected. Is it bad to let it sit loose in there or should I keep the metal bracket that was separating the mother board from the disc drive? I don't know much about PCB's so I'm not sure if there's like a coating that prevents it from connections or something.

It's probably not a good idea to have a motherboard floating around inside the case. You risk short-circuiting something it it touches something active, plus the risk of it hitting something and causing damage. I'd secure it down if I was you.

What's the best way of securing it down? I know the Wii had a metal thing that covered the motherboard, and the DVD drive sat on top. Assuming the metal is grounded, is it then safe to lay it on top of the metal?
