Yeah, once I get my iPhone 4S on Labor Day, I'm going to send my GS2 to Samsung due to some battery issues.

Once I get it back, I feel like rooting it. I'm kinda sick of Samsung not updating their devices.

Can someone please enlighten me with some reasons why you want to root/why rooting your droid is awesome (you get my point)?

Thanks.

My reasons:

1. Custom roms.

2. Wifi hotspot tethering and/or USB tethering. (built-in wifi/usb tethering if someone made a custom rom that enables it)

3. Overclocking.

4. Making backups. (If you have ClockWorkMod installed)

5. Ability to uninstall bloat ware apps. (crap that your carrier preinstalls onto your phone that is not normally uninstallable). It can be uninstalled with "Titanium Backup" which also can backup apps. But that app requires root. ;)

I'd name more, but I can't possibly remember them all. :P

Basically, all of the above post. There isn't any reason NOT to root your phone. Its not like It changes anything by itself.

Without root is like buying a pc and only having access to the guest account, even though you own it.

If you do decide to root it, you can take a look at these forums which specialize in all things root related:

http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s2-t/

I linked you to the "AT&T" version since I assume that's what you use since you mentioned having an iPhone.

Why should it matter that it doesn't update if it doesn't need to be updated anyway?

As everyone said,
Custom roms.
Overclocking
Remove bloatware
backup apps.

To name a few. I rooted my android phone and loved all the goodies that came with it and all the crap I was able to get rid of

TorBot works on a non-rooted phone, but needs root access to enable transparent proxying. Along with overclocking your device, you can underclock it as well. Also, what everyone else already said.
