Can somebody please help me understand how to add titlekeys to Freeshop?

Specifically the whole deal with decrypted vs encrypted titlekeys.

Last week I bought a new3ds modded with arm9loaderhax & Luma3ds. FBI, enctitlekeyupdater.bin, & Freeshop all pre-loaded. I've been downloading & playing games from Freeshop just fine so far.

But I'd like to have a few more Japanese games that aren't currently on the Freeshop. How can I go about this? Is there a way to do so without removing the microSD card from my 3ds (the guy who sold me it advised me not to, and I'd rather not mess around with that either). If so how?

I already have the roms of the 3ds games I want downloaded on my computer. Is there a way for me to extract the titlekey (decrypted or encrypted, I have no idea because the title key site asks for decrypted but the .bin is apparently encrypted) from these roms , upload/"send" to the title key site, then download from Freeshop?

In my mind this process makes sense and should be possible, but I've spent the past 10 or so hours researching how to do this and for the life of me I can't figure out how. Downloaded decrypt9 and CIA converter and I have no idea what to do with either.

I'm a complete noob to all this. Please help.

Downloaded roms don't have titlekeys. You only get a new titlekey by buying a game.

So, you can't install those particular games via freeshop unless someone buys them and uploads the titlekeys. But what you can do is just install the downloaded games on your 3DS. Hopefully they're in CIA format, otherwise you need to convert them or download copies that are. Then you either need to get them onto your 3DS's sd card so you can install them with FBI, or you could try doing a network install with fbi using something like this https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-socketpunch-fbi-network-cia-installer-for-android-pc.412174/

Search for those games in .CIA format and install them using FBI, no need to get them exclusively from Freeshop.

On the 3ds title key site, where it says "Download encTitleKeys.bin", click the odd looking button next to the download button. A QR code will appear for you to scan with freeshop.

And there's nothing wrong with taking the microSD out as long as you put it back in after.

Or you can just install Titlekeys Tools in FBI, browse to 3ds/data/freeShop and copy encTitleKeys.bin to the 3ds/data/freeShop/keys folder

You can use nintys official microsd management software to transfer files to/from microsd. No removal required. Ftbrony and the like work too.

Double-check the file format of the games you've downloaded. See if the file extensions end in .cia or in .3ds.

If the file extension is .cia:
    1) Use the "microSD Management" option in System Settings\Data Management to transfer the .cia files over to the microSD card in your 3DS. Preferably in a folder called "cias" or something similar with nothing else in it.
    2) Open FBI and select "SD", then browse to where you put the .cia files.
3a) If there are no other files in the directory, simply press A on "<current directory>" and choose "Install all CIAs" (or "Install and Delete all CIAs"; I prefer "Install all" in case something messes up, though).
3b) If there are other files in the directory, you need to install each title individually, by selecting the title, pressing A, and selecting "Install (and Delete) CIA".

If the games are in .3ds format:
    1) Download 3DS Simple CIA Converter and extract it.
    2) Run the .exe file.
    3) Select "Convert 3DS ROM to CIA". The older version, which is the one I used before, had a couple of extra steps (generating NCCHINFO.bin and the .xorpad files needed for the coversion, which needed to be done on the 3DS itself), but the newest version apparently can skip all of that.
    4) Browse to the folder the .3ds files are in and click "Select Folder" (the button is labeled something like that, I'm away from my PC right now and can't double-check).
    5) Wait for conversion to finish; if there are a bunch of files, it can take a while. The program may appear to stop responding during that time; this is normal, at least on the version I used.
    6) Check the "cias" folder in the directory you extracted Simple CIA Converter to; if they are there, then proceed to the instructions for installing CIAs above.
*) IIRC, I've heard that either Decrypt9 or Hourglass9 can convert .3ds files to .cia files, but I was unable to find the option on either on my 3DS.

They're not in CIA format, how do I convert them? Do I need to use my 3DS for the conversion process or can I do it all on my computer?

Can't find the CIA's for these games anywhere :( I guess they're a little more obscure (シムズ3ペット Sims 3 Pets)& すみっコぐらしむらをつくるんです (Sumikko Gurashi Mura wo Tsukurun desu).

But what if the game isn't on title key site or freeshop?

If it's not on freeshop it's not on freeshop. Try to find the CIA elsewhere.
    Freeshop automatically installs games.

You need to generate a ncchinfo.bin, place it on your sd card, and use decrypt9 to generate .xorpad files. Move those .xorpad files to a xorpads folder in the converter directory. Then try again

Thanks! And does Decrypt9 have to be used on my 3DS console? Or can it be used on the computer to generate the xorpads?
