I am running XP Pro right now and was wondering if my processor would run xp pro x64.

    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...5058&CatId=1971

That is my processor, it says it has Intel EM64T, which supports 64 bit computing. So can I use x64 pro, Is anyone using something similar?

Also, would this really result in change in speed? [IMG] Thanks.

Yes, but x64 doesnt improve speeds much, it is more of a hassle than what it is worth

Yes you will find some 32 bit apps that will not work on it. [IMG] I have an AMD 64 and I didnt upgrade for that reason.

If you have the HDD space, install both, and see for yourself

yup, i know it sucks. stick with 32 bit, or better yet, go to linux.

(or if you have some more $, do what I did and go for a mac!)

I would suggest making 2 partitions, one with x86, one with x64. The x64 just for games, and the other for general computing

And the irony is, the only self-righteous person on this thread is you.

But I wouldn't buy a mac - I'd build a pc that can run mac os. best of both worlds.

To quote Maddox "What is it about Apple that makes its users unable to shut their mouths? Everywhere I go, there's another asshole with a Mac preaching about how much better Macs are than PCs."

It's an overpriced computer, not a social movement

Did you know that a much higher percentage of mac owners are above 55, as compared to pc owners? So much for the "young and hip" look

There you go, proving my point.

Azimuth : yeah, when I get some time I'm going to try out installing macos on my pc (all my components are compatible and I have the osx iso). For now I'll carry on using my wintel pc (which somehow makes me a mac fanboy - hohoho).
