Can I run .exe's on Ubuntu 10.04?

    Not out of the box. If you install wine, you'll be able to run exes, but compatibility varies. Check their site, they have a compatibility list.

    Use wine, and find a program called winetricks that will give you necessary components for certain programs

    Er, Xubuntu 10.4 comes with WINE set up out of the box... does Ubuntu not?

    Last time I used Ubuntu 10.04 no. I could be wrong though.

    WINE can sort things for you but if you have enough ram and a fairly modern CPU then you can always try virtualisation

    Cut down a version of XP with nlite (or use one of the premade ones floating around) and you can do just about everything but high end gaming.
