it depends on your computer, anyway, i have run a vm in a vm and the speed in that vm was great
it's not like emulation
He's right. They can't be used to their full potential, especially not graphics wise. 3D acceleration is the biggest limitation of a VM. However, if you have a spare graphics card you can do a PCI passthrough VM which will let it utilize that card fully which is cool.

You CAN use 3D acceleration, but barely. It's extremely limited, especially in VirtualBox.
And yep, definitely.

Vista with all the service packs installed is virtually indistinguishable from 7 - they're based on the same kernel and differ practically only in the visual style, so the Vista vs. 7 argument is pointless. The real question is "why not 10" which is better than both.

Vista runs a tad more sluggish then 7.
Then again, Vista's extended support will end soon as well.

10 would be the best option.
It's far faster then 7.

Honestly, it's much faster than any Windows OS I've tried in the last decade, especially when you remove some of its annoying features like telemetry etc., to me it's the next XP. I have one problem with it as of late - it boots faster than my display.

I'm running it on me old UMPC.
Laptop and server PC both have 7.

UMPC originally came with Vista.
I tried Vista on it, 7, 8 and 10 and 10 is the fastest one.
It's not bad that a device from 2008 still performs so well on the stock hardware.

Windows 10 is actually a very good OS; all my computers run it because I can have them synced to look the same, and then combined with Thunderbird and Firefox they're essentially all the same bar what they have on them (desktop has personal stuff, laptop has educational stuff, etc)

10 can be okay, I guess. I'm just jumping on an old bandwagon and the fact my school has a really outdated and slow server causing our W10 to crash and glitch up all the time.
XP is probably tied with Vista on its awesomeness, mainly for its simplicity, although give me Vista any day for better driver security and overall security. :)

That's fine, it could be worse: My town linked every school together, so you have the central AD server, then about 4 backup clients, and then a client in each school, with about 200-300 computers hammering it with logon requests and storage (which is onsite) per hour.

I only just noticed your username.

I hate Acers. Smashed one up because the thing froze permanently on me or something.
Sounds awful to me what happens with the servers though.

Yeah. Aswell as Smoothwall running to watch us (SO ORWELLIAN, and I almost got in deep shit because I reported it but I went to my website so it was in my site history), we have to wait about 10min if booted from beginning (5 on laptop), then a further 5 min for a post-login AD check and location mount. Then, all files are loaded in, checked, and THEN you have access to a computer with MITMing and a keylogger, aswell as a remote control system on.
Can you guess why I ask teachers if I can bring in my own laptop?

Vista sucks. 7 was what Vista should have been, and pretty much fixed everything that was wrong with it. If you are looking to go old school for whatever reason, run Windows XP. Probably the highest compatibility for all those obscure x86 programs you might still have.

But 7 would be much better supported for the Mac as well. Vista sucks.

The Greek dub of Toy Story's You've got a friend in me is still a classic even among boomers who've never watched the movie, mostly because it was sung by a famous beloved Greek singer

If anything, some of his songs were so controversial that he got troubles with the law regarding "blasphemy laws" in Greece.
