Haxchi and Mocha pretty much do the safe firmware patch, the only difference is that Haxchi can boot when offline while Mocha must be launched from another exploit.

If you're wanting Custom CFW on the home screen, just buy a cheap DS VC game (Cheapest is currently Brain Age at $6.99) and install Haxchi.
