I was wondering if there is anything that prevents Wii games from checking the system menu version directly and refusing to run if it is too low. That way you would have to update (or patch out the checks) even if you removed the update partition or are using a USB loader. Sure, it could easily be spoofed by a cIOS or patched but you would think they would at least try.

I always thought that the game(s) were checking against the IOS(s) that they run on and not the SM itself!

I haven't looked through the official SDK, I'm guessing through that that they don't have ES_GetStoredTmd et al?

Talking about SDK, what is the latest revision? 3.2 Patch 4?

Rydian I know they can't push out updates to games etc, but I thought most of libogc was just ripped straight from the official SDK so game writers would have access to most functions, even if a lot of them are useless to them.

games can check the system menu version. look at PoP. it checks for cIOS modules. I dont think those checks are in the SDK, but the game is still doing them.

the question is, why do you think a game would bother to check what system menu is installed on the wii? it make absolutely no difference to the game. the game will run exactly the same no matter what system menu is on the nand. making this check would simply be a waste of time. it could be detected in sneek/dolphin and patched out of the game in like 10 minutes, and it has absolutely no benefit.
