    Hello

I've bought my son a DS Lite for his birthday but having been made redundant last month and struggling to find any type of employment I don't want to have to shell out a load of cash to keep him in games. So I did some 'research' which lead me here.

I'm aware you are against piracy and won't provide link to games etc and that is fine. I just need to know where I can order an Acekard 2i (which is what I believe I need?) and once I have this card what else do I require?

    I live in the UK.

Please explain exactly what I need and in Layman's terms if possible as I am very out of touch with any games or computing since the days of the commadore 64.

    Thanks for any help. [IMG]

For a DS lite you dont need an ak2i

however in your case i would recommend the AK2.1 for the NDSL if youre cash strapped. there are reviews on the site for most of the flashcarts on the market

I would get a DSTT here (they ship anywhere). Cheap and works great.

    LOL DSTT?
hmmm i guess but the wait time for the site is horrendous and you'd also have to use yasu's firmware no? which would mean extra work.

First thing to do is buy an Acekard 2.1. The cheapest place to buy from is probably DealExtreme. If you have an SD Card reader, then you should get this one. If you don't, you should get this one. The difference is that the former comes with a USB microSD card reader that you will need to put games on your Acekard. Items from DealExtreme tend to take just over a week to arrive (I also live in the UK) as they come from Hong Kong.

Next thing to do is to buy a 4GB microSD card. I say 4GB because they can hold loads of games and really, unless you're some madman that needs every DS game, there is no need to get an 8GB. They're more expensive too. Here's the cheapest one on Buy it Now that I can see on eBay. That doesn't come with a reader. It is class 2 also, which may slow things down, but not by very much and you probably won't see much of a difference. The higher the class is, the faster it is. Have a look around for the cheapest one.

Once that's all done, come back here and tell us and we'll help you.

Oh, and welcome to the forum.

dx has a class 6 8gb for around 16$. its marketed at class 4 but its really class 6. it even says so on the card. And I would recommend that you get a ak2i just in case your son ever wants to upgrade to a dsi

Follow Livin in a box's advice, it's almost exactly what I'd recommend. I also live in the UK, and if you don't mind waiting 1-2 weeks for delivery, buy from DealExtreme. They're more than half as cheap as most other places.

Then just follow the sticky up top, which tells you how to set everything up once your Acekard has arrived. You'll know which one it is.

As for ROMs (games), thanks for not asking for links, at least some people read the rules. You'll find a ROM site with a quick google no worries.

identify theft? that is really bad parenting if you setup an account for your child that can directly link back to his name and year of birth. there are so many online predators and parents seem oblivious to it. i wrote a paper on it during my graduate work. the statistics would scare you.

Thank you. Will look into it, it's taking a long time to be delivered as the Acekard was posted from Japan apparently.

Huh, I would never have thought of that. But I would never do it in the first place, it just seems wrong. I wouldn't even do it with my own name...

What? Even if it was Ryan and 84 how useful is the information that somewhere in the UK there is a 25 year old named Ryan...

(Plus, the parent of a 25 year old should really let the 'child' take care of their own piracy...)

Thanks, now get back on topic guys!

Personally I recommend dealextreme.com for cheap flashcarts and memory cards. Don't forget that you will need a microSD memory card and reader to be able to use your flashcard.

with DX you have to be careful with the memory cards. sometimes they list a msd just by size and you end up with a generic off branded card. i did purchase a few japanese kingstons from them, legit in the box. i am convinced it comes down to how they list it. also DX is great with customer support. if you have questions about a product they will respond with as much info as they know. the team over there is a room full of people, so you get friendly personal responses everytime.
