Hacking Call Me Stupid

Instead of just trying to blindly figure out what the the hell I am doing, I would
rather have someone guide me so I do not have a major headache later.

I just purchased 2GB Fire Link cart from DealExtreme.com. I've read some
reviews on the site that it comes with no instructions. I wouldn't say I am
stupid but I don't want to chance it and do something incorrectly upon
the first startup.

I would like to transfer some home brew titles to my Fire Link.

Is there an definitive guide for a first time user of Fire Link on this site?
If not would anyone care to help me?

It should come with some version of the firmware already on it, if you want to upgrade it, you can look in the downloads section of this site. The instructions are in the readme, follow them to the letter!

Apart from that, as long as you're using windows, boot up the DS with both the firecart and the linker inside, boot the firecard, and drag and drop ROMs/homebrew and boot them on your DS. Auto save type detection works, except in my experience for Pokemon Diamond/Pearl and Zelda Phantom hourglass. For these games, set the savetype to "Flash 4M" by holding select and pressing left/right when the game is highlighted.
