So I was dumb enough to use 3DNUS to Download and pack as .CIA the 9.2 update and use Big Blue Menu on 4.2 SysNAND with Pasta CFW booted with MSET and install all .cias to upgrade.

3DS won't turn on and is just black.

    I have no backup!!

Is swapping the motherboard the only way now?

I can buy a replacement board on Aliexpress for 79 dollars and this is less than half I would pay for a new Old 3DS XL.

    No but I'll try.
Are there any reports of recovery using this method?
I remember I updated the way I did now once but it was on EmuNAND.

Yes i unbricked my n3ds that way, you will need to update your 3ds but its the only way you will fix it as you dont have a nand backup

Nope, that won't work, the SAFE_MODE_FIRM is touched with a bad proccess like that you did, it's bricked too.

The only solution was to restore a NAND thorugh a hardmode but you didn't make one.

This thread is going to mine in 1000 ways to brick your 3DS, and it should be stickied I guess.

In one hour I'll be home to try.
If it works all be more than glad and satisfied. It is my friend's 3DS, Zelda ALBW special edition.

I had the backup but I formatted by PC one day ago, if recuva finds the wiped file I'm safe.

I'm sorry to say that recovery mode only works when te mistake of updating something was thorugh oficial means such as update the consolo trough system settings, gamecart or Home Menu, because those don't touch SAFE_MODE_FIRM until very last step.

Yeah that is your best bet, my recommendation is to try Photorec too, but it only works on Linux, so you'll need to use a Livedisk or install if you're using Windows.

Yeah, that could work, and I really hope it does. The hardmode is actually very easy to make and you can ask any electronic technician to make one for you if you show him the proccess, and only a soldering iron is nedeed (special one, can't remember the english name for it, i spanish we call them Pistola caliente).

nand mod is your only hope then, (or buying a replacement motherboard).....if/when you do get it fixed either way compress your nand backup and store it online or on a external USB drive and stick it away for safe keeping

also did you ever set up emunand at any point?...ok just read over it, and it seems you had, if all else fails you could see if you have emunand set up on a SD which you could extract and use as a nand backup, this only works if you formatted emunand and didn't really update it (or only ever updated to 6.x or lower in emunand), but if you formatted emunand then updated you will just end up with the same issue (blackscreen on boot)
