It's finally happened. The bill to revamp Canadian Copyright Policies has been introduced and it is now only a matter of time before these crazy laws are passed.

We as Canadians have got to try and stop this or it will make Canada no better to live in then a Communist State. I for one hope there is an election soon so we can all see Mr. Harper out on his ass.

shit fuck shit.

They'll be talking about the copyright soon (illegal downloading) on CBC so switch your TV to CBC and we'll see.

EDIT: They're talking about it now on The Hour.

Not a particularly good analogy, socialist ideals regarding public vs private ownership mean that communist states have the most lax laws on intellectual property in the world.

It's OK to be lax on copyright when you already control what your citizens can and can't do with draconian laws.

You gotta love how ESA and similar groups are always saying things like:
QUOTE
“It’s simple: Every time someone acquires an illegal copy of a video game, money, in turn, is not going to those Canadians who work so hard to develop and publish games. That’s money that cannot be reinvested in creativity, job growth and industry development,” Joan Ramsay, president of the group's board of directors, said in a statement. “Copyright reform is essential to strengthen our competitiveness as an industry.”
to support such laws. The simple fact is, they could never prove it and any real facts they have to try and substantiate it seem to be essentially imaginary. It's simple: every time someone markets {hypes through popular media} something at a retail value that isn't fair, money, in turn, is going to those who work so hard to market the media's equivalent of fools gold. At least that is something substantive.

What gets me the most, is in none of this have I ever seen any form of an apology for the tax we now pay on media and information as to why it isn't sufficient (since that whole idea is obviously so flawed the laws apparently need to be changed as well.) I think they are counting on most ignoring this fact and continuing to collect that revenue.

btw: I've voted for the green party in the last few elections, before that I hadn't really been informed enough to pick any. It's just plain sad that things like making laws to put people who fall into the category of "supposedly, maybe stealing" through legal proceedings and likely jail {aka: Con College} with the result being bogging down the current legal system, whittling away peoples privacy(which will also create increases in service/subscription fees), and adding to taxpayers burden apparently take precedence over trivial things, like the environment.

put it simply this "proposed bill" needs to go away and get buried. It if does get passed somehow the Conservative Government here in Canada will never be in power again and that will be the truth

You've had your free ride long enough.

Welcome to reality.

Funnily enough, these laws are being pushed on us by the American Government who don't really seem to be as harsh on their own citizens...

When I think about it...nevermind, they pretty much raped some poor woman because of some songs she downloaded...well the way I see it, everyone else is next.

I hope they do pass and enforce copyright laws, harshly. It means I'll be too scared to pirate games and movies and therefore play and watch fewer games and movies and therefore spend more of my time doing things worthwhile.
