Hi guys! Yeah I'm sorry if you think: "Here we go, another thread about how to start" but just hear me out since I only have some small questions :)

I bought everything I needed in Black Friday (SD card that have 200GB, SX OS pro, RCM Loader, replacement dock shell, controller etc etc)...

Now I bought my console some times ago and I still have firmware 3.0.1. which I haven't used or opened yet.
I have been reading this guide very thorough a few times now, just so I don't mess up things: https://switch.homebrew.guide/
And I'm thinking to go with Fusee-Gelee since it supports all FW version.

And the only reason I bought SX OS pro was because of the convenient by not having to install the games everytime, just load the XCI file and baaam play the game! :P

I don't plan to play online (I honestly don't care if I get banned), but i want to keep my sysNAND version (3.0.1) if it's possible, just in case we get a cold boot sometimes in the future...

    But my small question is:
    1. Should I use Fusee-Gelee or Deja-Vu? According to the website Fusee-Gelee is a non-persistent exploit and we have to use a Jig everytime we boot our Switch (I think)....
And Deja-vu is a browser based exploit, which is a browser based exploit... Does that mean we don't need any jig when using Deja-Vu?

    2. Since I have my firmware on 3.0.1, is it possible to still be at 3.0.1 and install EmuNAND/EmuMMC? :)

    3. Even though I bought SX OS Pro I have always wondered, let say i use Atmosphere instead.
Since we can't play the game without installing them, what happens when you run out of Internal memory? Won't we need to delete some games everytime we want to add some new? Or is it possible to install the games on the SD card and then remove the previous files "installation" file? :)

    1. You dont use any of those with SX OS. You use their payload. Also why did you buy the pro version and an RCM loader? SX OS pro comes with one.

    2. Yes. Enable AutoRCM and setup emunand. You can keep sysnand on a low version.

    3. That's correct, you'll eventually run out of room on your sysnand.

First and foremost do not skip this step, BACK UP YOUR NAND FIRST! Backup full nand and boot0 and boot1

    1. Really? I thought this guide was for both Atmosphere and SX OS PRO: https://switch.homebrew.guide/
So i guess this is only if i want to use Atmoshpere? :)

    2. Doesn't AutoRCM "damage" the battery life and drains it a lot quicker?

    3. Can't we put and install everything in the SD card instead of having to worry when we run out of room in the sysnand? :)

    1. Dunno havent read that guide recently but I use SX os and it has it's own payload. I dont use Fusee-galee and deja-vu is browser based and I dont use that either.

    2. Nah. Just put your switch to sleep and you'll be fine. autoRCM only drains your battery if you leave it in RCM for long periods of time. You only need to be in RCM long enough to push a payload.

    3. Yeah you can install games and homebrew to your SD if you want.

    >Should I use Fusee-Gelee or Deja Vu?
That’s completely up to personal preference :P. They both get you the exact same end result, which is running your payload of choice in a bootrom context.

    1. Thank you! I will then only use SX OS since I've heard good things about it and that it's stable :)

    2. What the real difference between having AutoRCM and not having it? Is the only difference that I have to use the jig everytime I want to launch to CFW? If that's the case, then it's no problem at all.

    3. Sweet! Good thing I bought a 200GB SD card! :D

Haha mate I don't want to mess things up, that's why I ask stupid questions :P
But thanks for the information! :)

    2. Yes but the other nice feature is that it prevents fuse burn if you ever update your sysnand with choidejournx (allowing for future downgrade)

Wait do you mean that if we enable AutoRCM we prevent burning fuses?
Is there any other way without using AutoRCM? I just want to know my options :P

Using emummc and leaving your sysnand on the lowest fw possible

    sx os he means emunand.

Stay on 3.0.1 and use emunand if you don't care about online.

Switch community is toxic, so ignore the sxos comments. It's as good as it gets, atmosphere is probably second best, but it does NOT matter given the climate of the 'community'...

    [EDIT]
e.g. I mean that I have sxpro AND a generic RM dongle. I installed sxos for switch stuff (started at 8.0.1, still have 8.1.0 sysnand, 9.0.1 emunand), a second card for android, and a third for linux...

Maybe SOME day I'll try atmosphere when they stop whinging, but I see no benefit ATM IMNHO... they have a FEW things that are nice like easier overclocking, and sysmodules for more bluetooth controllers, but realistically that's it... setting up atmosphere is a more convoluted process that I do not see much value in, other than apparently it gives them the gods given right to complain about sxos... take it as you will, but frankly I've had it and I've only been around again for a month or so...

This is actually pretty good information! Didn't know EmuMMC and EmuNAND was the same :P
I also didn't know there wasn't much difference between those two CFW...

But is there a good guide I can follow for setting up SX OS Pro? All i can find is for Atmosphere... I know many of you don't recommend watching YouTube for this kind of stuff, but I can't find a decent tutorial for it :/

Also since you also have SX OS, is it possible to stay at 3.0.1 and don't burn any fuses without enable AutoRCM? :)

And also how do we update the CFW version since I won't enable internet? :)

It just prevents you from booting up OFW. If you update the sysnand and then boot up normal you burn your fuses. So if you used the jig everytime you wont burn either but people forget, or someone else boots it etc. And then you burn fuses.

Dont be so scared of autoRCM. I've been using it for years without issue.

The reason i'm afraid of autoRCM is because i've read that once the battery is completely drained out, the console might not work again...
    Here is some threads that made me a bit sceptical about AutoRCM;

    https://gbatemp.net/threads/bricked-after-battery-drains-out.551350/#post-8845600
    https://gbatemp.net/threads/auto-rcm-and-fully-drained-battery.537390/
    https://gbatemp.net/threads/my-switch-is-completely-dead-dead-battery-autorcm.544694/

But let say that i don't ever update my SysNAND since i will never connect my sysNAND to my wifi, will i still burn fuses when i boot it up normally?
And also can't i put the console in sleep mode when i'm using SX OS without AutoRCM? :)

Those threads are old and many people on here use autoRCM all the time. I've drained my battery a few times but you only need to charge it enough to boot up then I dock it. It wont kill your battery.

You dont need to worry about fuse burn if you dont update your sysnand.

Yes of course you can put it to sleep with SX os. That's what I always do.

The way that I understand it about fuses, IF you create an emunand and THEN use choidujour to update the EMUNAND it will NOT burn fuses, simply because you're skipping that part and loading a payload loader and THEN booting the CFW emunand. The loader blocks the fuse burning.

That said, IIRC it MIGHT still burn cartridge port fuses, but I'm not sure about this as I just saw one message about this on tx with the 9.0 update. And it was about an emunand 9.0 update with older sysnand. Maybe someone else here can verify or ask on tx.. personally I don't care yet...(below)

Again, I'm not sure about this last part, as I haven't gotten around to picking up any carts yet although there are a few that I'd like to get, but only if they come with nice printed manuals o.w. they can keep their carts and shop... but i digress...

I don't think it makes sense to say that one CFW is better than the other. They have different features and it depends on what you need/prefer.

Personally, I first installed Atmosphere then got SX OS and quickly changed back to Atmosphere.

The main advantage of SX OS is that you can run XCI files without installing them, on Atmosphere you have to install them (with tinfoil).

Since I don't care about this feature and didn't like the UI design of SX OS and also preferred the open source nature of Atmosphere I quickly switched back. I also like to tinker and Atmosphere is just much more open and interesting to me in this regard.

I also had an unpatched Switch on 3.0.1 but was given the advice to update my Sysnand if I want to play online. So, I updated my Sysnand.

Here is a feature comparison between the different CFWs: https://switch.homebrew.guide/comparingcfws

Not sure if it's up to date.

Fully charge your battery or place on charge during all of the below.
Download Tegra Gui payload sender --- Install apx driver within options.
Download Hekate payload -- Transfer extra files to sd card.
    Download LockpickRCM payload

    WITH HEKATE PAYLOAD
    BACKUP NAND(EMMC RAW)
    BACKUP BOOT 0 AND BOOT 1 .

    WITH LOCKPICK RCM
BACKUP YOUR BISKEYS (AND OTHER KEYS)

The Two methods above are the crucial and most important methods to do on a new switch if you plan to mod it.
And should be the very first steps you ever take, in case of soft brick to the device.
The above are or is not a complete guide to the process, so for everything you download read the latest instructions or ask a member of the community.

    AutoRCM>>>
Your battery will be fine, it will discharge if not connected to a charger..
The reason for this is AutoRCM will keep your console in RCM mode on soft power down. Which of course drains battery.
    To avoid this either,

Leave the console in the dock on charge, or via direct charger cable (not usb charging).
    Or
hold the power button and in power options and select power off. this will hard power down your console and should not drain if not connected to dock....
(Now if you put your console in the dock, The dock will turn the switch on and hence autorcm and will discharge battery if the charger is not connected to dock)

Keep AutoRCM, Keep that console on the lowest version of Fw(SystemVersion ) You can.
Install Emunand Method and use that..

The worst part about noob threads isn't that all this information is already out there and available with a simple search, but that the noobs are always trying to skip some part and want validation for their feelings. Well ,kid, just use AutoRCM. Why write a check that can't be uncashed? Once the fuses are burnt that's it. So just follow the guides.

OP have you done ANYTHING unofficial with your console yet?

If the answer is no then BACKUP YOUR NAND, BOOT 0 AND BOOT1.. This is called a clean backup. It's THE ONLY WAY TO GO ON TO THE ONLINE SERVICE AND NOT BE BANNED IS TO BE COMPLETELY CLEAN IN THE SysNAND. THIS BACKUP GIVES YOU AN OPTION AS LONG AS YOU NEVER GO ONLINE WITH THE HACKED SYSTEM. No matter how you feel now, you'll always be able to restore a clean backup if you preserved your fuses and don't go online in CFW Don't be a dick and make decisions for future you that you don't understand. Setup EmuNAND and do all your pirate, cfw fuckery in the EmuNAND ONLY and leave your SysNAND for legit stuff.

Did you back up the NAND, Boot1 and Boot0 BEFORE DOING ANYTHING UNOFFICIAL?

If the answer is no then you are probably screwed when it comes to online play. Still good to preserve fuses.

HONESTLY, USE AUTORCM. IT WILL PROTECT YOUR FUSES. YOUR CONSOLE WILL LIVE IN SLEEP MODE ANYWAY 99% OF THE TIME SO IT WON'T MATTER EXCEPT YOU WILL HAVE A WAY TO DOWNGRADE IN THE FUTURE BACK TO YOUR CLEAN BACKUP STATE(if it was clean).. 3.0.1 might get cold boot someday so there is that as well.

Don't be a schmuck. Do what every experienced member here will tell you to do and use autoRCM. And don't listen to the Atmo Crew. SXOS is better. It's funny they mention the drag-n-drop installation but not the real best feature ever. USB HDD. I have a 5TB HDD on my switch. Never run out of space.

Ill look for a tutorial for you.

Quick read over this and it is mostly up to date... mostly. The part about install is right on. I don't think there is anything missing. I gtg for now but I will read it more in depth later and let you know...

If I were you OP I would choose to install EmuNAND as hidden partition. Less corruption (none AFAIK)...

What do you mean by "that's it"? On an unpatched Switch fuses are not really needed except for a theoretical upcoming more comfortable way of booting, no?
