So I stopped by my local goodwill outlet and found a "copy" of super mario maker there in the showcase. I asked to look at it and I noticed that the game cover looked like someone had printed out of their printer. The game disc art also had a similar faded/oversaturated look and the back of the disc was darker than the normal Wii U game discs I had back at home. I was very interested and decided to buy it anyways.

It obviously didn't work. I get an invalid disc error when i put it in the Wii U. I googled it but didn't really find any info on it. Do bootleg games exist for Wii U? I am just curious.

This isnt directly related to the topic, but the whole greed of this entire hobby where bootleg of NES, SNES, Genesis games werent so common 5 years ago has become so rampant right now. Its disgusting that even if a game sticker looks legit and runs perfectly fine the only surefire way to tell legit from bootleg is to get a bit driver and open that sucker up.

Sorry for that mini rant, just something I've noticed on eBay and other marketplaces. Its slowly killing my enjoyment of retro gaming and gaming in general.

Here are pics of my game which I bought at retail.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/87121071/20160509_174700.jpg Notice its that glossy plastic kind of paper, where yours looks printed off a inkjet home printer.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/87121071/20160509_174747.jpg The disc itself looks more finished and not like the CD burner or whatever art was running out of ink. Also the back of my disc is dark too so I wouldnt worry about that.

Aside from the aesthetics, if it runs fine then keep it but if its not even working then I'd ask for your money back.

I can't imagine how this came into existence. This is truly bizarre. I think bootlegs most commonly appeared in cartridge-based systems, from what I've seen.

Have you tried putting the disc into a drive on a computer and seeing if it does anything?

agree with @KiiWii
someone printed that on a blank disc..
i had a printer that i could print DVD's..
is this considered a bootleg? it doesn't work.. it probably doesn't even have the game on it.. because i wouldn't define this as a bootleg
try the disc on your pc (if you have a blu ray player)
it most likely it's empty or maybe it has porn on it

Most likely, it was probably part of some kid's stash that he hid on his shelf in plain sight as "it is just a Wii U game, right?"

lulz thats a burned blu ray. Notice there is no BCD Code. There is also a WUP- Number on the innner part. I use BD-r to backup my server and archive. someone burned a wii u 23 gb iso on a blu ray. or its blank. lol probly tried to sell it at a flea market or or ripped off and then game it to good will.

I'm guessing some scam artist tried selling it online, and after the game didn't work for the poor sucker who bought it, they just gave it to goodwill.

I'm thinking the op did this just to get some attention, hence why he hasn't said what's on it etc considering people are asking, he has no intention on replying back
