Looks pretty neat :D I rate it 49/56 :P

'cause I'm not a native English speaking person, I didn't notice any misspellings/grammar errors. The only thing bothering me is that I wasn't able to understand the videos sometimes. Also, the how-to-play video for some reason got a bit quieter at 4:44, I guess it was only on my end.
This game could've been a very good selling game for the DS, because the graphics, and the gameplay style perfectly suits it. I may remake it for the 3DS for private play :P

If I would have money to spend, I would buy it :P Even though I have nobody to play it with :(

I think you should show the actual physical board in the video. It took me a while to scroll down and realize you actually built it and didn't just have pretty .pngs. That boosted your legitimacy points +1000.

Whoa really? I never thought of that. Alrighty then, I'm gonna change that, thanks for the heads up!

I could swear i have seen this project somewhere before ... maybe even on kickstarter already ?

Spaceship board games are plentiful on KS, but if you've seen any with similar mechanics I'd like to see them :P

I don't like the boxart or the font. Hope its a WIP.

Both final :/ Can I ask what you don't like about it?

Mothership would actually make a great touchscreen game, if you come up with any homebrew I'd love to see it. As for the quiet audio...gah it does too! It's not your imagination. Thanks for picking that up, now I have to fix it...

It might have been what you were going for but it looks like a 90's CGI for a computer game for the box art. The font itself? Just seems out of place to me for some reason. It probably won't both others but I feel presentation means a lot. Might just be me specifically.

i'm pretty sure you cant even use clips for advertisement and such. this doesnt fall under fair use and could actually get you in trouble cause it makes it appear like keanu reaves or the star trek gang have endorsed your game.

as for the number of tokens, at least for the energy and hp settings and such, would it work to use just one per stat? i mean, you dont really have to use one token per point. to keep track of the stat total that can be redistributed, you could put like, a sliding scale on the upper edge of the control panel that goes up to however many stat points a mothership can have. and then use a small clip you could slide along the edge to indicate the current distributional stats. (though that only works if the control panels are made out of plastic or cardboard i think)

as for the font on the box, should you get this running on kickstarter, you might just wanna invest a few dollars in an artist to design the name in a cool looking way
you know, like this but more metally and spacey
battleship-logo-FRCA.png

and while i'm seeing the boxart again, if its easy enough to change, maybe give the different colored spaceships different colored lasers. should add more dynamic to the image

Funny you mention 90's, yes that was what I was going for. I grew up playing lots of cheesy space games, Decent etc, so I'm glad that came across although I realise that won't resonate with everyone.

Hm I'll look more into the star trek clips later, I knew this was coming though...

I've tried the sliding thing...it doesn't work that well :/ . The board game community is used to game with lots of counters and tokens so this is normal but it definitely should be digital.

You're the third person so far to mention the font / name. I'm going to have to go back and have another look at it, nothing is final. I was going for flat, simple logo to not get lost in the artwork but maybe it's too flat :/

Thanks for your advice everyone!

well, i was just jumping in on what the other guy said. i mean, we're all really just nitpicking at small details here, since we can't really give much input on the gameplay or anything. while its kinda silly to expect you to have like, a perfect presentation, i guess thats what people are used to from kickstarter these days, what with all the well funded companies and studios abusing it for publicity or to minimize investment risks.

the name is fine, as long as the guys from battleship dont have some kind of monopoly on boardgames ending in -ship (which they very well might have, check that too).

i think the problem with the font is that its just slightly ordinary in contrast to the space stuff happening on the box. no system font really fits on a modern day board game box, which is why i mentioned hiring an artist to design the title. like one who's got some experience designing logos and such.

board game boxes have to catch peoples attention, so you use something cool that jumps at them while they walk by. like zombicide. never played it, but that font makes you look twice even if it said humble bumblebee's honey hunt.

coincidentally, i just see they have that sliding scale thing too

I need the nitpicking! And I've been inspired by you guys to do a new, punchier logo so thank you heaps! I believe the game will be better off for it.

That Zombicide logo is fantastic, so clean and bold, really good example of what I want. Yeah ha I see the sliding scale thing, that would work for my games HP system but now for the energy system.

Dude. That is nice as fuck. I'd get it just for the box xD

(I am a box lover)

Very nice.

Thanks guys! Aaaand this is why getting lovely random people such as yourselves to give blind feed back is always a good idea.

@BurningDesire - It never occurred to me that some people buy games just for the box. You're not the only person in the last week to tell me that.

Woah I thought this was going to be some thing that a person got out of the dumpster (or at least looked like it) but you created a real product. A impressive product. Good Luck! Looks really good.

Haha I'm pretty happy then that it looks better than a dumpster game :P

The Greek dub of Toy Story's You've got a friend in me is still a classic even among boomers who've never watched the movie, mostly because it was sung by a famous beloved Greek singer

Also his choice was quite interesting since his songs are anything but family-friendly
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
If anything, some of his songs were so controversial that he got troubles with the law regarding "blasphemy laws" in Greece.
