Bluetooth Audio for the Nintendo DS

One day I thought, "I really wish I could listen to my DS on Bluetooth headphones." I don't want to do any hard mods to my DS. So I came up with the idea to put my phone behind my DS as a grip and have an aux cable running between them and then take the audio and repeat it, then going in to Bluetooth headphones. I ran into two problems, 1. my phone would not recognize the aux as a microphone and 2. I had no way to reproduce the audio.

After a while I tried with my computer and both problems were solved, when I plugged in the aux I could configure it as "Mic In" and I used Voicemod to reproduce the sound. But as old problems fall, new arise, The DS was no longer portable.

So my questions are,
1. Is there a way to see whether or not my phone is compatible with aux mics?
2. Is there a way to reproduce the audio on my phone?

There are already a ton of Bluetooth aux transmitters at pretty much any price point you can imagine. Most are okay, though I wouldn't expect the best quality out of most of them.

That's interesting and probably would work, but I currently can't just go out and buy anything I want, especially when talking about something not too important like this, so I was looking for something I could do with things I have now.

bluetooth audio transmitter is the way you'd like to go. maybee the only way.
do you know how audio jack on your phone works?
you have to use some splitter cable like this to get audio over cable to your phone (as mic input):

if you look at this cable male jack plug (TRRS), you'll see it has 4 gold parts. from tip ot the jack it's:
left audio out
right audio out
mic in (mono)
ground
so to be able to e.g. record your audio from DS, you have to connect your audio cable (TRS) that looks like this:

it has three golden parts:
left audio out
right audio out
ground
so.. you have to connect left and right audio from your DS to mic in on your phone and ground to ground..
basically there is no way to use this setup in stereo (if it is in your phone or if it is in you computer - like only one audio jack for headphones+microphone)
also i think you can't use audio jack and bluetooth audio on your phone at the same time. it's one or other.so..

(but I dunno, there could (and probably will) be some latency on this setup - your audio would be delayed opposite to real audio pushed from your DS)

You're almost completely right, except for the part where mic input via combojack doesn't disable BT output. That still works and I've done that in the past to talk to people on discord while playing something on my TV.
But it does introduce a lot of latency and I wouldn't recommend that as a solution for anything.

As for OP. What bluetooth headphones do you have? There is a chance your model supports AUX input directly, which would mean you can just run a wire directly from DS to your headphones and skip the bluetooth portion entirely. A good aux cable is also like 5 bucks at most for one long and strong enough you could comfortably use it longer than the headphones will last you.

Thanks for clarification, I don't use bluetooth audio often and I didn't try this. I'm oldschooler and I use wired headphones/speakers mostly. So.. I just found it easier because of all different gear I use for listening/making music. All of it have some kind of wired audio out connector more or less compatible with wired headphones.

Oh yeah, most of my headphones are wired still because bluetooth continues to have a bunch of issues regularly, but occasionally the ANC and no wires comes in clutch when passive noise cancelling just doesn't quite cut it, so I have experience with both.

I got one of those taotronics tt-ba07 bluetooth transmitter/receiver combos that are small, portable, rechargeable, and support low-latency a while back, when the manufacturer used to ship to where I live. It does the trick with the right headphones, but that can be a headache. Most won't.

You might have issues if your have earbuds that allow you to use both the left or the right earbud by themselves. I got my Soundcore Liberty Pro 2's to work, but it was a PITA. Those are the only "low-latency" bluetooth headphones I have. For gaming, you'll want something that does.

If you're using your console as a music player ala moonshell or the like, the latency thing won't matter.

Gave up on that and use that same device as a receiver for an old Technics hifi set to give that bluetooth capabilities.

I use a set of headphones that has both bluetooth and wired capabilities with my 3DS these days.

You can hardware mod your DS, but something like this would work without requiring a hardware mod, and would work with other devices that only have a 3.5mm audio jack. It's like the adapter I mentioned earlier.

You can probably find something similar for cheaper if you look around on other websites.

Pairs with bluetooth headphones, speakers, receivers. It transmits and receives audio via bluetooth.

I just hope someday somebody hack that ds cartridge..."Learn With Pokemon: Typing Adventure".

And we can use it not only to pair bluetooh keyboard for ds homebrew but all kind of functions...
