The Switch continues the trend of being a massive hit for indies as FDG Entertainment (publisher of Oceanhorn) announced that Zelda-inspired Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King, sold double the amount of units on Switch launch day than its lifetime sales on Steam.

In classic 2D-Zelda fashion you explore an open world map, collect items, solve puzzles and beat dungeon bosses.

Features list:
  • 15+ hours of gameplay
  • HD Rumble support
  • Huge, diverse game world with many different locations
  • 5 challenging dungeons
  • Various items impacting gameplay and fighting style
  • Fun, charming storytelling
The game costs $14.99 / €14.99 / £13.49 on the Switch eShop.

Well duh, that's what happens if you're stuck with a small library of games. Steam only has 50 reviews of the game, so it's most likely one of those games that got swept up in all the shovelware (assuming that this game isn't also).

Marketing's got a lot to do with it. I never heard about it before a handful of sites started promoting its Switch release, and even if it had decent word-of-mouth, Steam's too big for it to reliably reach the front page without some way of going viral.

I like to play such games on a handheld and wouldn't buy them on the PC. I have bought and enjoyed several indies for the switch.
Exactly man. I think Nintendo gamers are the better demographic for Zelda-like titles than PC gamers. Plus as you said titles like this are better played on a console / handheld than on PC.

I don’t know about others but personally I have the mindset that Steam games have to be triple A-ish titles that are worth whipping out your mighty computer machines in order to be considered unless they are Steam-exclusive.

This isn't the month after launch, this game still has to compete with Rocket League, Enter the Gungeon, Stardew Valley and etc. That said, of course the first 2D Zelda-like on Switch is going to sell well, there are a whole lot of options on Steam for this.

Exactly. The games you mention may have a big fanbase, but they've all been out at least a year longer than Blossom Tales. With their uproar and marketing, most likely anyone who wanted the games already got them. Not to mention they're each rather niche genres. Car soccer? Rougelite Bullethell? Farm sim? Not to offend/overgeneralize but it seems like lots of Nintendo console owners have permanent rose-tinted glasses. They need something that reminds them of the good, old days, like a Zelda clone.

Well, though niche they might be, Smash TV and Harvest Moon have been around almost as long as Zelda. Rocket League carved out its own niche with how insanely popular it is. No point in limiting the number of genres in Switch's library.

True, but they never had the following that any of the games you mentioned have. Also, how many people here aside from us and a few others even remember Smash TV? Good times at Nickel City...

Not saying they should, but you're comparing a game barely anyone has heard of (<3000 owners on Steam) to giants with 6.7M, 900K, and 3.5M owners respectively, each game being out at least twice as long.
