I never did understand this. Why aren't blogs private? As in, you have to be a member to view them?

We do it for the WTB/S/T section, so why not the blogs?

I get your point wanting them to be private actually.
But it's up to Costello/Shaun whether or not they are.

    Does it really matter?

I agree with turtles, who's going to just come here to read blogs?

And what are they going to do when they read/see your blogs?

Seriously, unless it's something life threatening I don't see the point.

It's not like it's any different if the person that reads blogs is a non member or not, if non members really wanted to see blogs if they were private, they'd just make account. WTS/B/T is understandable because that's where personal things get s/b/ted.

Iono, I always considered blogs to be like a journal, a secret thing. But I guess it's a little bit harder to be like that on the temp..

Well, you're basically posting your life or whatever personal things in blogs to the public, it really wouldn't matter whether or not members or non ones read it, people still see it.

Not very secret if you post it on the internet.

And, if anyone were actually trying to get into your blogs, they can always just register..
With the buying and selling forums there's at least a post count limit before you can get there.

Although the point that GBAtemp is a community not the internet does
say that Blogs could be private. But really im half-half on this subject
    so I don't really care.

I don't know why you would want a private blog anyway. It defeats the purpose.

Maybe you need to keep a diary or journal.

My point is that the 'Temp is a community.
If outsiders want to know about other Tempers
in Detail (yes you find out more about them in blogs
than KYT) they should join the community.

    But really it doesn't matter.

Other websites specialized in blogs/website creations (Blogspot, wordpress, etc.) are not private, they are used to show to other people your own posted messages.
If you make it mandatory to register, users won't do it because they are not interested if they don't know what you are talking about.

The blog on the forum is not so much different, this is just the website structure which is different, but the purpose is to let users read what you want to share.
It's still available also to "unknown" people, as anybody can register without your own consent. So what's the difference with guest and registered user? just 2 clicks away, they only registered! but they are still unknown to you. you would be sharing your privacy with them alike.

Now, as an improvement, it shouldn't be private as "you need to register" but more as "you need to be part of my friend list on the forum".
That would make much more sense.

Next forum update will integrate a new Blog module (separate from the forum topics) with more options.
I don't remember if you can make posts private though.

It would be very surprising if the latest blog module of IPB doesn't have privacy settings since it's a common thing for all blog systems today.

    I just checked.

You can set an option to allow/disallow guest viewing.
And you can set your blog as: Public, Private club, Private.
You can create more than one blog too, so you can have a public one and a private one.

You can also auto-feed other website blogs automatically on new posted entry on gbatemp blogs, or on the contrary having gbatemp receiving notification when posting an entry on another blog website. (or maybe it's just a link to external blogs, no notifications at all).
You can also use external blogging tools (API).

You can define other user's right to edit/manage your blog too.

There are a lot of options available.
I guess a lot of users will be lost on first try.
