Over in Anaheim California, Blizzard is holding its 12th annual convention of all things related to World of Warcraft, Overwatch, Hearthstone, and more at BlizzCon 2018. The opening ceremony has just winded down, with lots of major news already pouring out of the event. We'll be summarizing all of the announcements here.

New Overwatch Hero, Ashe

THE VIPER
Ashe's semi-automatic rifle fires quick shots, or she can use her aim-down sights for a more damaging, precise shot.

DYNAMITE
Ashe throws an explosive that detonates after a short delay or immediately when shot. The explosion from Dynamite also lights enemies on fire, dealing damage over time.

COACH GUN
Ashe blasts enemies in front of her, knocking them away and propelling herself backward for added mobility.

B.O.B.
Ashe summons her trusted omnic sidekick, B.O.B., who charges forward and knocks enemies into the air, then lays down suppressing fire with his arm cannons.
Ashe will be the next character added to Overwatch, a leader of a western themed thieves gang. The above video shows her gameplay reveal. Blizzard also released one of their animated cinematic shorts, focusing on the other western gunslinger, McCree.

WoW Classic gets a release window

World of Warcraft Classic is a return to the older days of Blizzard's popular MMO, stylizing it just how things were 14 years ago. So long as you're a subscriber to World of Warcraft, you'll be able to play Classic as well. This will be available sometime in Summer of 2019.

Destiny 2 is free for a limited time on Battle.net

To celebrate a one year anniversary of Destiny being on Blizzard's Battle.net client, Destiny 2 will be given away free to those who claim the game before November 18th.

Warcraft 3 gets a remastered version

If you're a fan of Warcraft 3, you'll be excited to know that the game is getting fully remastered in Warcraft 3: Reforged. There's no release date, but the remaster will have remodeled characters and improved environment textures. Warcraft 3 originally launched in 2002 for Mac and PC. The World Editor tool will also be brought back as well.

Heroes of the Storm gets new character

Heroes of the Storm is also getting a new playable character added to its lineup, in the form of Orphea. Blizzard uploaded a full trailer detailing her history and lore within the game.

Diablo gets a mobile release

Though it's not the Diablo 4 everyone has been waiting for, Blizzard will be bringing Diablo to mobile in a brand new MMORPG. Both iOS and Android will be getting Diablo Immortal, which tells a story taking place between Diablo 2 and Diablo 3.

Diablo Immortal is a mobile Massively Multiplayer Online Action RPG (MMOARPG) developed by Blizzard Entertainment in partnership with NetEase, coming exclusively to Android, iPhone and iPad.

Experience the world of Sanctuary in a persistent, always-online adventure anywhere, anytime.

Join a worldwide community as you battle side by side to vanquish ancient evils, explore perilous dungeons, and of course, get legendary loot.

Story: An Untold Chapter of the Diablo Saga

The story of Diablo Immortal is set between the events of Diablo II: Lord of Destruction and Diablo III.

The Worldstone lies shattered, yet great power remains within its corrupted fragments. Power that Diablo’s minions hope to harness to bring about the return of the Lord of Terror.

The Archangel Tyrael is presumed dead, and mankind is left to deal with the aftermath of his actions. Fragments of the corrupted Worldstone taint the land, bringing forth ancient evils who are looking to harvest the stone’s power and use it to control humanity.

Timeline:

  • In Diablo II, the demonic Lord of Terror Diablo is defeated and his soulstone is shattered at the Hellforge.
  • In Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, Diablo’s brother Baal corrupts the Worldstone, forcing Tyrael to destroy it.
  • In Diablo Immortal, the fragments of the Worldstone corrupt the land, and demonic invaders pour into Sanctuary.
  • In Diablo III, a falling star strikes New Tristram, bringing forth an ancient prophecy to the end of times.
World: Sanctuary at Your Fingertips

  • Unique Zones and Dungeons: From the peaceful town of Wortham, to the jungle island of Bilefen and the ancient Library of Zoltun Kulle, each zone in Diablo Immortal has new challenges to master and familiar faces to see. Will you choose to help Valla and her teacher in the Shassar Sea, or delve the tomb of Fahir, an ancient disciple of Akarat? Or storm the Countess’ Forgotten Tower and stop her dark reign once more? The possibilities are many. The choices are yours. In Diablo III: Reaper of Souls the nephalem stop Malthael, Archangel of Death, and meet their fate.
  • Massively Multiplayer Action in Your Pocket: Meet other demon-slayers as you wander Sanctuary, and join them to take on deep, treacherous dungeons. Visit vast social hubs like Westmarch and conduct business with local merchants before setting off on your next adventure. Drop in or out of groups easily and engage in dynamic events all over the world, teaming up with other heroes as you take down Skarn’s minions—and reap powerful rewards.
  • Westmarch: Explore the sprawling streets of Westmarch in a time before Malthael’s corruption. The city is always bustling with activity as visitors from all over the world come to marvel at its sights, enjoy its landmarks, and more. Westmarch is where you can meet all your adventuring needs. You’ll have access to your stash and vendors, but more importantly it’s the place to meet fellow travelers, relax and take a breather.
Controls: Peerless Precision, Peerless Action

  • Designed for Mobile: Diablo Immortal is being designed from the ground-up to give you an authentic Diablo experience on touch-screen devices. Intuitive actions, gestures and touch controls put you in full command of your hero. Slay endless hordes of demons as effortlessly as you would with a controller or keyboard and mouse.
  • Zero in on Your Enemies: Directional controls make it easy to move around in the world; demolishing the denizens of hell is as easy as holding down your thumb on a skill from your hotbar to aim it, then releasing it to unleash hell. Quickly access potions for a gradual health refresh, and equip recently looted items with a single tap on your screen.
Classes: Rise As a Champion of Sanctuary

  • Barbarian: A savage wanderer and mighty weapons expert. Survivors of the disaster that struck Mount Arreat, Barbarians use powerful weapons and brutal attacks to crush any opposition.
  • Monk: A swift, sacred warrior and a master of martial arts. Monks embody the will of their land, Ivgorod, and their one thousand and one gods. Lightning-fast strikes and peerless mobility are the Monk’s specialty, and they pummel their enemies with a dizzying array of blows.
  • Wizard: A rebellious academic and living conduit of arcane power. Wizards manipulate arcane forces to strike from a distance, disintegrating their enemies to oblivion, freezing them until their bodies shatter, or burning them into charred remains.
  • Crusader: A towering colossus and wrathful zealot. Faith is a Crusader’s weapon. Striking with cruel flails and clad in impenetrable armor, Crusaders wander the land, vanquishing evil wherever they go and dominating the battlefield through sheer purpose.
  • Demon Hunter: A vengeful stalker and crossbow-wielding adept. Relentless vigilantes that assault from afar, Demon Hunters are trained slayers with a tragic past—their families destroyed by the denizens of the Burning Hells. Tempering the discipline of their training with their hatred for the Burning Hells, Demon Hunters strike undeterred until their prey is at their mercy.
  • Necromancer: A commander of the dead and manipulator of life and death. The priests of Rathma seek to bring balance to the world. They use their powers over life and death to keep Sanctuary free of both demonic and heavenly influences.
Monsters: New Enemies Arise

  • Skarn, Herald of Terror: The demon known as Skarn, Herald of Terror—once Diablo’s most powerful lieutenant—is rallying a new demonic army. Skarn intends to gather the fragments of the corrupted Worldstone and use them to resurrect Diablo, reigniting the Eternal Conflict between angels and demons. Skarn is not the only one hoping to seize the window that’s been opened by the Worldstone’s destruction; a fledgling Coven is at large, and dark cultists roam the land, spreading corruption wherever they go.
  • Ancient Horrors Born Anew: Several choice demons from Diablo II, like the sickening beasts known as Vile Mothers—complete with their razor sharp claws and deadly spawn—and many other familiar and all-new enemies will come to life in Diablo Immortal. Stay tuned as we reveal more details… and beware what lurks in the shadows.

Considering they've been waiting 4 years for new Diablo content, and got a pay to win, microtranscation filled, reskin of a shite korean mobile game..... I think the anger is well justified.
Justified? Justified would be if they actually payed money for something and didn't get what they paid for. Being outright disrespectful is completely unjustified and makes them sounds very entitled to me. You know, the time between the D2 expansion and D3 release was something like 11 years. If you don't like mobile games, don't play them. It's not hurting anyone.

I'm a huge Diablo fan, and am disappointed that we didn't get to see any mention of Diablo 4. But guess what, life goes on, and maybe we'll hear something about it next year. That's if Blizzard actually decided to do a BlizzCon next year, and I don't blame them if they don't.

To put it into perspective, they sound like little kids on Christmas, who got all kinds of toys and gifts, but just not the one thing they wanted the most, so they threw temper tantrums, cursed out their parents, and ruined Christmas.

Yet another woman in Overwatch. Still no relatable male role models.
And Blizzard complains about toxicity in their game full of attractive females and rogue male characters
and tmblr is still triggered about the fact its a white woman and not another minority :rofl2:

Why would you seek out Tumblr's opinion on anything? Just like Gab before it shut down, you pretty much know where they stand on any given subject.

Holy shit though that Diablo mobile game is the dumbest possible development decision Blizzard could have made for the series. Not that I expected much after the shitshow which was Diablo 3 at launch, but somehow I was still disappointed.

The two questions, one by a red shirt guy, and the other, who called himself "Fluffy" (or something similar to that), are both really valid questions.

1. The first question, is "if this is an off-season April Fool's Joke", is valid. This is Blizzcon. People pay good money to be at Blizzcon. They pay more to fly there, and to stay for a few days, even if they're not journalists. They are there to celebrate everything Blizzard. To put into perspective, they (the blizzcon-goers) booed off a man who went up the stage (who was from Activision) to announce a certain game is now up for free if you claim it (base game). They booed him off. Not because the game went free. It's because the whole damn thing had nothing to do with Blizzard, or what it stands for.

Going into mobile may be a gamble by Blizzard. However, look at the trends in mobile gaming, and as one of their developers said "look at the central themes in all our games, you'll see a pattern". That insinuates that Blizzard is more than happy to milk the Intellectual Property (in this case, Diablo) in any way they can. Going into mobile, is fine. However, when taken in context of the history of Diablo, and the circumstances surrounding Diablo Immortal, then there's some red flags that deserves scrutiny.

1. Blizzard mentions that "the Diablo Immortal" team is not the main Diablo team. This insinuates 2 problems. The first, is that they're clearly separate, even if Blizzard wants to say "they're working in the same creative direction. The second is that it means Blizzard isn't 100%. As in they don't have 100% control of the project. This is, in historical context, Blizzard has always VERY TIGHT control of their products, including the shelved ones. Due to "not being up to standard". Those who "survived" the Westwood Studio's absorbtion and dismantling by EA, especially their Dune, C&C franchise would know very well what it meant when Warcraft, Starcraft was a contender of high standards, and what Blizzard did to make sure that they did all they could to put out a high quality game.

2. Blizzard mentions that there are "multiple ongoing Diablo" projects, and again in referencing to point A, is Diablo Immortal canon? (I believe it is). Is the quality of the storytelling going to be up to par? The trailer is up to par. The gameplay? Its a bloody re-skin. Blizzard has released Diablo 3 for an "underpowered" Switch, compared to other consoles, so if you take this nonsense called Diablo Immortal and Diablo 3 for Switch, you'll get an idea what "standards". Again, it references back to point #1. As a matter of fact, Rhykker who is a prominent Diablo3 youtuber, just released a video about his first impressions of playing Diablo 3 on Nintendo Switch, and he likes it, seeing that he exclusively played Diablo3 entirely on a PC prior to this.

Now, 2. The second question.
"Can we play this on PC, or is this a mobile only" question.
That question itself is legitimate. Diablo franchise was always released first on the PC. Then others. Now we're getting a brand new diablo, that's released on Mobile, but no for console (even if there was a hint for a Nintendo Switch release), and nothing for PC. So why the discrimination? Anyone can play on their phone, but there are people that choose not to. I choose not to play on my phone, that's why I bought a Switch as a console, when I don't want to play games on my PC / Laptop.

IF that is considered "entitled", you're entitled to your opinion, but calling that as "unjustified" is utter nonsense, garbage, and completely missing the point that the 2 persons asked a question about.

I have to disagree. While it was in a rather rude manner, the fans were showing displeasure with the choices made by the company. When you are a gaming empire built by said fan's dedication to you and your amazing content, I think that's an important message to get across. You can't simply cheer for something you hate, or even just stay quiet, otherwise the parties responsible will get the wrong idea. They even had the nerve to get upset and ask "What? You guys don't have phones?" which shows they clearly don't understand our frustration. Yes, we have phones. We also have toaster ovens, that doesn't mean we wanna play Diablo on them.

The Diablo series has been through some VERY rough times since Diablo 2 LoD. The 3rd game is better now, but when it initially released, it was pure garbage. 17 years later, almost 2 full decades, and *this* is the big game they have to announce? I'm sorry if you like mobile games or whatever your reason is for defending this garbage, but this is a HUGE slap in the face to any Diablo fan.

...and don't even get me started on the quality. They signed with some crappy Chinese mobile game company, and basically reskinned an existing game to look like Diablo, and contain its characters.
