Hi,

I have a Wii with the homebrew channel and Usb Loader GX. I used to play games from my usb hard drive, but after moving house they now all refuse to load. I searched online and found this forum. I went through previous threads and have updated my cIOS (no idea if it was out of date) and Usb Loader GX. But, when starting a game I always get a black screen and then thrown back into the home brew channel.

I've ran a sys check and here is the log:

All of the games on my hard drive only show if I set the Loader's iOS to 58. I tried using 249 and 250 on this but no luck as the games stop appearing as it fails to initialise the usb. I also have my game's iOS set to 249, and I tried 250, but neither seem to solve the issue.

My video region is set to disc default (although tried force PAL/NTSC.). I'm completely lost and hoping someone can help me or if the Wii is just too far screwed technical wise and I'll have to buy another?

The hard drive is formatted to FAT32 and I transferred the .wbfs games using Wii Backup Manager.

Thanks

Hello! Welcome to GBATemp! But anyways, it could be possible you keep accidentally using the wrong pot, did you try both ports? Maybe you keep using Port 1 instead of Port 0, which would not work.
Also to save you from a headache, v10 beta52 and v8 final are the same essentially.
Also, as a quick tip, I recommend you move this to Wii - Backup Loaders as this post is more on-topic with that part.

Hi,

I thought this thread was already in the correct section? Unless I'm mistaken.

Also, I have tried in both ports but no luck. It's at the most bottom one when laying flat so closest to the disc drive as it used to work there and I have the usb port 0 in the loader settings.

Thanks for the reply.

Is it really a hard drive and not a flash drive?

Well it's a USB 1TB External Hard drive from Seagate. I know these aren't the best but it worked on the Wii before flawlessly until I moved house. I did try a 64gb usb 3.0 which also showed the games on loader 58 but same result with the black screen when booting them.

The reason I asked is because that's common with flash drives.
You could try resetting the USB loader settings (there should be an option for it in the settings), and maybe also run CheckDisk to rule out corruption.

Hi,

So I solved the issue and this is what did it for me.

I know YouTube videos are bad and outdated but I added beta52 v10 to base 58 slot 251 with revision 65535. Next, put the hard drive in the top usb slot (furthest away from disc drive) and in the usb loader put 58 on loader and 249 on game.

I'm puzzled why this worked but I'm not complaining. I've tried so many things and just happy it's now playable again. To me personally usb 0 should be the closest to the disc drive but there we go.

Thanks everyone.

I guess the homebrew USB 2.0 driver just doesn't like your HDD. IOS58 has an official USB 2.0 driver, but using it for cIOS comes with drawbacks, for example some games aren't compatible with it.

Furthermore: I'd suggest using Configureable USB Loader over USBLoader GX.

Works much more reliable for me...

Hi.

I fixed this problem by using configurable usb loader app. Wiiflow and Usb Loader gx gave me same black screen error but everything is fine with cfg usb loader. I hope it will work for you too.
