The fan project Black Mesa (previously known as Black Mesa: Source) fell silent a long time ago, but has shown public signs of life. A new album on their official Facebook page includes confirmation that a first release is inbound, along with a handful of new screenshots showing development. This follows the team's June 9th posting that stated if their page for 20,000 likes (which was reached) that they would post "some exciting new media".

For those of you not aware, Black Mesa is a fan attempt to recreate the first Half-Life game in a modern engine. While Valve officially made Half-Life: Source previously, it was simply a port of the old media to the new engine. Black Mesa is a recreation, working from scratch with custom media.

Good to know that it's still alive.

Half Life Source was disappointing
This, I enjoy playing my valve games in third person, but Gordans whole model wasn't even rendered. It was just like the end of Portal 2! DAMMIT VALVE, WOULDNT HAVE BEEN EASIER TO JUST ADD IN ANIMATIONS FOR THE CUTSCENE!?
Disembodied arms suck!

I wonder if valve will try to buy it or something.

If the game is good enough, they just might go ahead and hire the developers to work for them. It certainly wouldn't be the first time.

Anyway, I know these guys are big fans of Gordon Freeman and everything, but I just hope they don't take after him in the communication department.

When HL3 comes out (and it will come out before this) it will be on a new engine.
Black Mesa developers will scrap their project so they can make the game in the new engine.

Then the comparisons to Duke Nukem Forever are going to be even more accurate.
