Birth by Sleep receives award, Nomura comments

Tetsuya Nomura, the director of the Kingdom Hearts series, has updated the official Kingdom Hearts Twitter. In this update, Nomura firstly thanks Famitsu for announcing Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep as a recipient of the "Award of Excellence" in the Famitsu Awards 2010. Secondly, Nomura mentions Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance and says that his staff are currently busy producing the game. So, not to worry, as the game is currently being developed, new information is sure to come up soon!

You know, I used to think it was crap because of the way the story progressed and everything, but I finished KH2 for a second time last night, and it's actually a really good story once you're able to understand everything.

I'll admit, I was one of the people who hated the story because it made no freaking sense at all. But once you read the secret reports, and play the games and actually pay attention and try to link stuff together, it makes sense.

Before I had no idea why Master Xehanort, Ansem, Ansem the Wise, Xemnas, and Xehanort were all connected. But after playing through BBS, everything cleared up for me. Though playing the spin offs (I consider Chain of Memories a spin off), it's ridiculously easy to get lost, and those games should only be played just for the gameplay, not for the story.

KH is a good series. And I'm sorry, but saying "its milked".. well.. you can say that about any game franchise really. Metal Gear, Zelda, Mario, Pokemon, Halo, God of War, Final Fantasy... the list just goes on and on.

I thought BBS was okay, but nothing worthy of an award.

I didn't like how I replayed the same levels with the same characters too... It made the game tiresome to play after a while -_-

But Birth By Sleep wasn't even that good. If they start working with current-gen consoles and not this cookie crum crap with releasing games one by one on handheld consoles, maybe they could get somewhere.

kingdom hearts 365/2 days the story of the game was perfect only the gameplay could be better
and by kingdom hearts Re:coded the gameplay was nice but the story was crap -_-

EDIT: My view on Kingdom Hearts as a series...

- KH1: I own it. The gameplay was pretty fun but the story was stupid.
- KH2: Haven't played it yet. Probably not enough to urge me to buy it.
- KH: CoM: I tried it and I couldn't see the appeal in it. The battle system was honestly bad. If they just gave me some like a side-scrolling hack 'n' slash ARPG I think I'd be pleased, or just a turn based battle game. This card battling stuff was crap.
- KH 358/2 Days: The story was crap. The characters were stupid. The main story gameplay was incredibly repetitive and boring. The multiplayer seems fun though, I may actually get my friend to pirate the game so we can try it together.
- KH: Recoded: I couldn't see how anyone could play this game successfully. The controls were just awful. I dropped it in half an hour and realized I could fit much better things on my memory card than this big 256MB game.
- KH: BBS: Gave it a try and was bored instantly. Dropped it since the game has a large file size and that much better games could fill that area.

Why all the hate? May not be the best game out there but from all the other Kingdom Hearts games since 2, it is the most improved. Refined gameplay and battle system. I get the characters aren't all likeable (though I like Aqua) and the story wasn't nothing special, it was still a fun game in the end.

I guess that is a matter of opinion though.

I would think most KH players, myself included, only played CoM and Re:Coded for the story, or didn't play Coded at all (it was pointless in the canon anyway, except for the final cutscenes). BBS was fun in the sense of new characters, portability, and plot thickening. The plot thickening is irrelevant if you never played KH2 and 358/2. 358/2 is irrelevant if you never played KH2.

I own the first three games on that list. Honestly, KH2 improves the game play leaps and bounds over KH1. To this day, I haven't brought myself to play KH1 start to finish. Too many of the worlds suck too much ass. I've beaten KH2 a few times, though the story and Organization XIII make substantially more sense once CoM, 358/2 Days, and BBS have been played. I beat the hell out of CoM and still play Riku's story every now and again when I'm really bored since it's short and takes no actual work to play. 358/2 Days, I just beat to say I beat it. The mission system, panel system, every part of it sucked. Re:Coded, I made it to the very end, and just quit playing. Had about two rooms to go, and I would have been done. The game just got so damn boring.

BBS....I finally beat the Final Episode, Chapter, w/e it was. The only good thing about this game is the fact that tons of the story makes so much more sense, it's pretty insane. This game should have been made ages ago though. I've never been a big fan of the prequel thing.

Here's to hoping that 3D doesn't reveal anything important, as I have no plans to buy yet another system just to expand my understanding of the story. KH3 is beyond past due. It better be on the PS3, or else I'm going to be pretty damn pissed.

They're impossible to have played in order if you didn't start playing them until this year and owned the three (or four depending on the DS model) systems necessary to play all of the games.

No, I didn't like them because the story sucked for all of them and the gameplay was bad on some of them. Kingdom Hearts seemed like a game that was made with a lot of plot holes which Square noticed they could exploit by making more games to fill in these plot holes. If the plots didn't suck they wouldn't need a bunch of dumb spin off games to explain it.

Kingdom Hearts seemed like a game that was made with a lot of plot holes which Square noticed they could exploit by making more games to fill in these plot holes. Honestly, the only games worth playing is BbS (for the whole Xehanort/Ansem/Xemnas thing. It helped me out drastically in figuring it out. Also for finding out why Sora's Nobody looked nothing like him).
Kingdom Hearts 1... well, obviously.

Playing any of the others (even CoM as the story made sense to me and I never beat it) will confuse the story up so much. But if you actually take the time to try to figure everything out, it becomes clear and is actually a good story. It took me a while, because I was used to games just giving the story out. But KH you have to basically work for it.

The gameplay is something different. To me, KH1 had boring gameplay, but a good story. KH2 had amazing gameplay, but was too easy, and the story was somewhat messed up. Birth By Sleep, well, probably has the best gameplay and story.

I do agree with that they shouldn't have made all the spinoffs, as it's fucking up the story. And for KH2, they didn't really have to go like that. A simple one main enemy thing would have worked like it did in the first KH.

So why can't SE make ONE Kingdum Hrths game with a STRAIGHT forward storyline and plot from all the other mediocre KH games? It will make me at least want to play KH if done correctly.
