R4 and other flash carts don't support microSDHC, only microSD.

It is possible the R4 team will make a new generation R4 (or R5) which supports SDHC

I wouldn't be too sure, the faq on the r4ds site says

Q: How many files can I have on the R4?
    A: R4 Adapter supports 128MB~4GB TF(MicroSD) card , 4GB=32Gbit

Those 4GB MicroSD are very unreliable. And it's probably better to have 2x 2GB anyways.

and the prices of Micro SD Cards are so low it is cheaper to by 2 x 2Gb cards than a 4GB SDMC, even if the R4 supported SDNC

Why sadly? SDHC are so dam expensive you would be stupid to pay that much for a little thing.

I am >-this-< far away from ordering my CycloEvo, as soon as the retailers get them back in stock. Thanks to the miracles of the interwebs, I found that Buy.com sells Japanese Kingstons 2 Gig... They are $22 with free shipping. Ten bucks off with first-time Google checkout. Two gigs for $12 shipped to my door? Awesome.

Yes, but the point is that it doesn't state the R4 supports HC.

Currently the popular brands, Sandisk and Kingston don't make 4GB microSDs unless they are HC.
There are some 4GB microSDs somewhere out there though, from unknown brands.

i tested a 4GB Sandisk HC card. I thought i would need a special usb reader but actually i used a generic one i had laying around. I was able to format the card using "format D: /fs:FAT /A:64k" and i copied the latest 1.11 OS on the card and all i got was a frozen loading screen. Thats my experience.

you can get 4GB micro sd's for use with R4 but not is SDHC format. you need to find a standard one thats all. like in FAT format or FAT32

    haven't seen one around though.

    GBATemp factory.
If you buy without the "HC" then it will work. but why not have 2 cards? Then you could have more flashcards in one time [IMG]?
