FWIW, anything visual is at least somewhat subjective, or there wouldn't be colorblindness.

I don't know anything about this issue though, so I have no idea if it's so barely subjective that Stevie Wonder could tell the difference or whatever.

well from what im understanding of the neogaf post, look at it from an angle with wifi on if the wifi indicator stays blue its good, if it goes greyish its a TN

There is no definitive way to tell whether you have an IPS or TN panel if you show the display only from the front. Do it like this.

definitely this whole thing with saying "the screen looks to have a yellow tinge" is subjective
i do not doubt there are different versions of the screen but it would be nice to get some actual data on this issue
part numbers, dates ,regions

maybe if we try searching for replacement part upper screens for N3ds we can find some differences?

ok well the "yellow tinge" or "blue tinge" problem does exist, i have seen my fair share of consoles doing nand mods to know for sure not all screens are alike, but ofc this problem exists in virtually all consumer products.....but nintendo seems to have a less stringent level of quality control....it costs to be picky

that being said the colors seem to settle over time, which is part of the manufacturing process, i know one of my n3DS screens was slightly yellow tinted, but after playing for a few hours it seems to be mostly good now, i remember reading some post about it being some glue or something that settles after heating (not sure if that's complete BS, but it kinda makes sense), so the yellowish screen is more common for new consoles, but it generally fixes itself

The glue in screen thing is just a rumor. After playing 50+ hours with the n3ds the screen is still as yellowish as it was in the beginning. I always compare it to my shiny perfect white old 3ds screen to rule out the possibility that my eyes got used to the yellow tint.

should have checked the SN
so i take it the low end SN consoles are pretty much gone from retailers now ?
probably can find some sellers on ebay maybe that stocked up on launch day consoles

I bought online so no way of checking the serial number. And I don't have it anymore because it's on its way back.

thats why i like ebay you can just ask the seller a question and find out first before you buy
not so much with amazon or other online sellers

So, my N3DS just arrived after 2 months and it's on 9.5. They needn’t bother to deliver it on a saturday. Back to waiting for gateway...

In reality, though, once you're old enough having to wait one more month or two is really nothing.

Bought another two 3DS's:

MM3D New 3DS XL: Firmware 9.5.0-24E + IPS screen (slightly better than my first MM3D New 3DS XL)
Metallic Black New 3DS XL: Firmware 9.4.0-21E (IPS screen, more yellowish than the above one)

Meh, I'm not trying anymore to get a hackable New 3DS XL.
