New Pipe (Droid app) has a built in mp3/mp4 download feature for youtube videos, although I typically just stick to watching the vids themselves because all ads are removed & auto repeat is an option.

Damn, I just realized the audio files are M4A and 128 kps. I apologize for that, granted you would still have the music or whatever downloaded and you could convert the file format to MP3 through an audio editing program like Audacity.

I use JDownloader. Gets you the original audio file with no additional compression whatsoever.

If you want good quality audio, you should just not download from YouTube. Even if the downloader itself isn't messing with the quality, YouTube has its own compression.

Youtube algorithm compresses to .ogg or .m4a with 152kbit max. It sounds like mashed potatoes. That's why it absolutely sucks when people share obscure music on youtube only without offering a file download in lossless or at least 320kbit mp3...

I'm always disappointed when I upload good music to youtube only to find out it's utterly destroyed and almost unlistenable after it finished uploading. I'm an audiophile, I'm very sensitive to audio compression.

But still, if you want to download youtube audio in the best possible quality use Jdownloader, that's my advice. You get the .ogg or .m4a file exactly as it is stored on their servers.

Any youtube downloader that offers 320 kbps just takes the raw 128/152 kbps file and upscales it. It's a farce. You won't get better quality out of that.

You could convert a 128 kbps mp3 to lossless flac if you wanted, it would still sound exactly the same...

Youtube is good for a quick listen to music you don't own. But don't expect anything approaching quality from that.

You cannot get 320 kbps from YouTube. The source audio is stored as M4A 128 kbps. Converting it to 320 kbps will just increase the size without increasing the quality.
You can download YouTube's M4A audio separately from the video, no conversion needed. youtube-dl can be used to do that. You can convert it to MP3 if you like, but M4A is a superior format.

I use videoder for Android, works for a lot of platforms including YouTube (of course) but also Instagram, Twitter, porn sites ... Many different qualities & formats available to download, multi-part and infinite playlist downloader. You also have custom interface for YT on the app, with download links already cooked. Yeah that's advertisement but I really do like this app.

PS: You won't find this on Google Play, only on other sources wich means you expose yourself to viruses unless you download the apk from the official site. You have ads on it that you can get red of by purchasing a plugin on Google Play this time.

Still using the OG dvdvideosoft YT to mp3 converter. Although in the past they didn't have a paywall. Great tool to have especially downloading an entire playlist of a soundtrack.
