@Ato Puro, when u say it worked, r u referring to modmii, unfreezemii or tskill?
All 3 confirmed working on my windows 7 64-bit machine (and also on my other XP machine)

U will not lose anything by upgrading to 4.1, and it is very safe to do (only real risk is the unlikely event of power failure, and even that can be fixed if u have bootmii @ boot2). So I recommend u upgrade to 4.1... but if u insist on staying on 3.2, tell the ModMii wizard that you want to upgrade to 4.1, then just follow the guide exactly but when u reach the install wads step, install all the wads on the list except for the new 4.1 system menu wad and u will stay on your current firmware (all other steps are the same and safe to do on 3.2).

@nightwaxon, your very welcome! Wish your daughter a merry Xmas from XFlak

@ModMii Fans! Its been awhile since I've had totally new feature ideas for ModMii... but I'm happy to say that I'm working on a totally new ModMii feature. So far so good, and the feature is really really really cool, but I still have a lot of work to do on it. So hopefully the next ModMii update will include new features instead of mostly bug fixes

XFlak, I was referring to ModMii. I simply answered the questions for hacking a virgin Wii and ModMii downloaded everything (55 files) with valid status and then generated the guide. I had no need to use unfreezemii or tskill.

Thanks for the comment on the firmware. Your way is easier than the other way (manually).

IOS236 Installer v5 by Dr Clipper is out Google it
(Note: the network bug should hopefully now be fixed with the release of v5, but I have not been able to test as I am away from my Wii. Please try it out if you had problems.)

I used it one time and it works no more DSI

A suggestion to a new feature... Dios-Mios builder like the excellent Sneek builder already implemented. I have no idea if that is even possible, just dreaming I guess...

Just popping in to say a massive thanks for the guide. Managed to follow it today, and I'm all set-up for playing ISOs on my Wii now.

Question though. What USB Hard-Drives are compatible? Will any do? Was thinking of getting a WD 320Gb one, much like this one...http://www.ebuyer.com/product/171927.

Compatible?

Haven't checked for your drive exactly, but most (if not all) WD drives work.

XFlak, some error report (and a little story):

1) First time I ran ModMii, I chose 4.2U and all channels except Wii Speak. It downloaded every 55 files with no problem and generated a guide. The next day...

2) ... I deleted ModMii folder and re-extracted all files from ModMii.zip. I chose 4.1U and same as above. ModMii froze around the 20th file or so. I wasn't going to update my Wii, so I thought I had no need to download the channels. So I just close ModMii, deleted its folder and re-extracted all files from ModMii.zip again.

3) The following day I chose 4.1U and no channel. I got a Microsoft .Net Framework error. I clicked the "Continue" button twice (or so) and the dialog error box disappeared. ModMii froze, but running unfreezeemii, made it work again.

4) Today I decided to update to 4.1 and deleted the ModMii folder (I like fresh, clean installs) and chose 4.1U and every channel. I had to run unfreezeemii many times (at least 4) and got the very same error. This time I took a pic and copied the details. You can find them below. Note thought, that I haven't turned off the PC during these 4 days, but I have restarted it, so, everytime I ran ModMii it was a different session. I haven't installed or uninstalled any application, game, etc. No other app was running as well, besides Firefox (but I wasn't surfing/browsing; I just sat back and watched ModMii do its work, like the first time). Anyway, here are the pic and the error message:

just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging

For example:

ÂÂÂÂ

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Hope this wasn't posted before and can be of help.

EDIT: forgot to mention I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 fully up to date and using an account with admin rights.

Occasional errors of that nature is to be expected, that is a problem with nusd.exe, one of the tools used by ModMii.

Also, sometimes it may appear that ModMii has frozen, but it could just be that ninty servers are being overloaded or your internet is slow. So don't rush to run unfreezemii.bat if u don't have to. I would say run the unfreezemii.bat only if u haven't seen your screen change in over 5 minutes.

You can try reinstalling your .NET Framework 3.5, that may help.

All I can really say, is that I have gotten this error too, but I have gotten it 2 or 3 times ONLY... and I've used/tested ModMii literally thousands of times (on win7:64-bit and XP). So if u are getting these errors as frequently as u claim, I suspect something about your windows isn't right, hopefully a .NET framework update will help.

One thing is for certain, just repeat your ModMii downloads and it will eventually work 100% of the time, and for most users, it should work on the first try.

XFlak, most of the time, ModMii froze during "wrote xxx" and not while "grabbing xxx". I thought about internet related problem, so I only used unfreezemii while ModMii froze during writing a file.

Yes, when a download/writing failed all I had to do was either unfreeze it or let it finish and then choose "Repeat Download" for any skipped/invalid download. Even with this problem, I can get all the files and the guide in the end. I just thought I should mention it, since it's a nuisance to leave the app downloading stuff and come back later just to find out it froze. I'm not complaining. It's a great app (it saves a lot of time and trouble). I just wasn't sure if this has happened in the past to other people and/or if it was related to ModMii or some other software (conflicting SWs; that kind of stuff...);

By the way, I see your signature above the "Fast Reply" box and I have to admit I forgot to thank you while questioning how to use it without updating Wii's firmware and while posting the error message. So here it goes: THANKS

Hi there,

I got new Wii few weeks ago. My Wii is virgin with version 4.3e. I was searching all over Internet how to sofmode my Wii. Found I need Lego Indiana Jones game to succesfully sofmoded my Wii, however buy this game is almost imposible.

Therefore I want to ask If ModMii is the application that can softmoded my 4.3e Wii and let me play games from usb drive without Indiana Jones game. I see it can softmoded other version, however didnt find anything about 4.3e version.

Thanks a lot.

XFlak, I updated .NET Framework to version 4 (from Microsoft website) and installed a security update for it from Windows Update app and I didn't get that error again. I just ran ModMii one more time, and the only problem was some failed/skipped downloads from system update, so I'd say that has to do with Nintendo servers. I'm not sure if it's just a coincidence or newer .NET Framework helped.

@Certmike, ModMii can mod any wii, including 4.3E... where were u looking when u said u didn't find anything on 4.3E? Run the ModMii wizard, tell it your Wii is 4.3E, it will eventually tell u that u require either lego indiana jones OR yu-gi-oh 5D's to mod your Wii. There is currently no other way to softmod a 4.3E Wii without one of those games.

@Ato Puro, interesting... especially because .NET Framework 4.0 isn't used by ModMii, and installing .NET Framework 4.0 is totally different from .NET Framework 3.5 (ie. u can have both installed on your computer at the same time). I meant you should try reinstalling your .NET Framework 3.5 (which is the .NET framework used by nusd.exe and modmii). Here's a quote explaining .NET Framework updates further.

QUOTE(http://ask-leo.com/what_is_the_net_framework_and_do_i_need_all_these_versions.html) said:
Normally, it's safe to assume that version 2 of some software replaces version 1, and that version 3 replaces both 1 and 2. Each later version includes everything in the prior versions, so that the prior versions are no longer necessary.
Apparently the .NET framework isn't "normal". For example, software that requires .NET framework version 1 might not work if only version 2 is installed. In fact, you'll already note that while most software upgrades replace the previous versions, .NET framework installations do not. If you install version N+1, version N remains.

XFlak, I understood it when you told me to reinstall .NET 3.5, but I thought I should check for a newer version. I didn't know .NET Framework works the way you mentioned. Funny thing is that in the Uninstall screen (in Control Panel > Programs and Features > Uninstall) it only shows .NET Framework 4. It doesn't show both 3.5 and 4. I'm not sure if versions below 3.5 aren't supposed to show up in that list. Anyway, I assume it's a minor problem and probably too rare to be addressed (because even if you get it, you can still download all files and generate a guide after running unfreezemii). I posted the problem, thinking it could be related to ModMii. Good thing it's not a common thing; so, well, "let it be".

dude, if it doesn't show 3.5, then I doubt u have it installed, in my Windows it lists each version of .NET Framework separately. But if that's the case... I'm surprised it worked at all... in either case, try installing .NET Framework 3.5 from HERE

Hopefully that will address your problem (FYI, i'm pretty sure .NET Framework 3.5 has been included in windows automatic updates for long awhile now)

@anyone currently having ModMii problems...
...NUS servers are currently DOWN. So any apps that download files from nintendo will not work at the moment (including windows apps like ModMii, NUS Downloader and wii apps like wifi downloads/installations using dop-mii, mmm, IOS58 Installer, cios installers, etc.).

Hopefully nintendo's servers get up and running again soon...
