Just as I thought

At home I have one pc with xp sp3 and three laptops with windows 7. At work I have 10 pc's with XP sp3. That error have happened to me with all xp pc's. My windows 7 pc's run MODMII flawlessly. All my xp pc's have framework installed and are perfectly configured so it is very strange indeed.

i got it working i think. followed the guide as carefully as possible took forever to finally finish. now ive made an iso and used wii backup manager to transfer it to both sd card and a usb flash drive no luck as of yet with seeing anything happening when running usb loader in the menu. ive tried formatting the usb flash to ntfs and copying the files with the backup manager to the wbfs folder and ive tried formatting the sd card to wbfs and fat32 and using the backup manager

the formatter in wii backup manager does not work, or it very rarely works, everything else in the program works great, but that's why the guide never tells people to format their drives using wii backup manager
ModMii USB-Loader Setup Guide said:
Start the FAT32_GUI_Formatter.exe saved here: COPY_TO_USB\FAT32_GUI_Formatter\
Make sure you select the drive letter corresponding to your external hard drive.
You may optionally uncheck the 'Quick Format' box, then click start.

to put the file on it but same thing happens when loading the usb loader it doesnt do anything but go back to the menu did i install something wrong or copy the iso wrong? heh okay i downloaded

r u running the app off an sd card? Or off of a FAT32 HDD, it cannot run off of NTFS

Cfg_USB_Loader_60.zip and put the files in the right folder not sure where cfg60.dol,cfg60-222.dol,lang60.zip go?

it sounds like u turned on the "save zip" option, go to the options page and enter "Z" to disable it. U don't need to keep any of those zips (unless u want to) everything that is in them has already been extracted to the proper location in the COPY_TO_SD\COPY_TO_USB folders (or whatever drive settings u have)

and how they work but the iso loaded up from the homebrew menu where the new cfg loader appeared so it worked! You mean the cfg usb loader appeared in the HomeBrew Channel? But it wasn't before? It's probably cuz u had the cfg usb loader files saved to an NTFS hard drive, as I mentioned earlier, the HBC won't read NTFS

i followed the guide though and it didnt mention needing to do this what went wrong?

I'm not quite sure what u did differently to get it working to be honest... what did u do exactly that the guide didn't mention?

im now playing an iso of wii play er wii sports rather

works great but why didnt it work following the guide?

I would need to know how u partitioned ur drive when it failed and where the usb-loader app was saved in order to answer that question... but did u get it working in the end??? If so, thats awesome dude!!!! FYI, I think 100% formatted as FAT32 is the best setup for a wii ext hard drive

4.2.7 Changelog
  • Support for Nintendo's new alternate versions of the same IOS.
edit: for those who don't understand the first bullet of the 4.2.7 changelog... it basically means u shouldn't have any more problems with "invalid" files
So I take it these "alternate versions of the same IOS" are only an issue for the coders and they way they handle or patch IOSes, correct? So the average Wii-modder should have no issues, say with downloading IOSes via NUSD?

Just dotting my i's and crossing my t's.

the average wii modder will be fine... basically when u download a file from nintendo, u could get a file with ticket A or the same file with ticket B (for some files)... both function the exact same, so both are valid. ModMii was labelling the files with Ticket B as invalid when they were in fact valid (albeit slightly different)

oh i was up real late working on it but from what i remember the usb loader in the menu wouldnt read from fat32 formatted sd using the computer to format or the backup manager. with the usb flash as well i formatted it all ways and then in the end i formatted the usb flash to ntfs which it is loading the games from right now. what i changed was decompressing that zip with the cfg usb loader to the root thats all and it worked. well i havent had time to actually play the iso but it loaded up to the title screen. i still wonder though what went wrong i was really really careful and read through everything slowly as to do it just as instructed. is there supposed to be a menu to download homebrew inside the menu there or do i need to install a special channel for that? id like to test out what homebrew i should put in there next for things like i dunno.. not sure whats available

feel like such a newb the process took about 5 hours to get it finally loading the iso.

Xflak, I have one more suggestion for your wizard:

Please include a section that says what can remain on the SD card and what can safely be deleted. I know, it's noobish, but then I'm one.

dude, u did something wrong... probably something simple. There is no way it started working when u extracted the cfg loader zip file to your device, as that should have already been there. Are you remembering to copy the CONTENTS of the copy_to_w/e folders to the appropriate device? ie. on your device you should NOT see a copy_to_w/e folder.

You have to choose a filing system to use, then go with it... it sounds like u were having trouble one way, so u jumped to another... don't do that, it's hard for me to help u when I don't know what u r trying to accomplish or u keep changing ur mind. I will give u shortform instructions on how to set up a USB-Loader on a 100% FAT32 hard drive without requiring as SD card (as this is my preferred set-up, and the easiest to set-up).

-first off, run the usb-loader setup wizard, and select the recommended choices (FAT32 and USB), let it download the files.
-backup any data u got on the drive
-run the fat32 gui formatter, and select the drive letter of your harddrive, then click start and wait for it to finish
-go back to the copy_to_usb folder, and copy everything that is inside it to the root of the (now FAT32) Hard Drive (this will include the contents of any zip files u also downloaded, no need to re-extract them)
-start wiibackupmanager, and use it to transfer/convert all kinds of Wii Game Formats (ISO/cIOSs/etc.) to your hard drive (it's a simple program to use, if u can't figure it out, read this: http://sites.google.com/site/completesg/ba...-backup-manager )
-plug the hard drive into THE BOTTOM USB PORT (port0) on your Wii, then start the HomeBrew Channel and start the CFG USB Loader (or if u have the spinning 3d USB-Loader channel that came with "extra brick protection" u can use that)... and then u are done and it should be working fine

If u have problems doing any of the above steps, tell me exactly what step u were attempting, and what went wrong

To set yourself up with other apps, go ModMii's download page 2, and check out what is available for download, all the cool stuff is in the "Just for Fun" section. It will download the files to the copy_to_sd folder (or w/e settings u have configured), then copy the contents of that folder to your SD Card (or even your FAT32 formatted HDD assuming u get it to be recognized in the HomeBrew Channel ok)

edit: if u have wifi on your wii, download the "homebrew browser" (HBB) from ModMii, then launch the app from the Homebrew Channel, and it will allow u to download homebrew directly from your wii... this was also mentioned in the guide.

PS. make sure u checked the Hard Drive Compatability list... if u are doing everything right and it still isn't working, u could just be using an incompatible drive

@Shebang, from ModMii's main menu, use the "FC" File Cleanup Feature to help u delete all the files u don't need anymore after modding

thing is its working now i dont want to break it. im telling ya it wasnt working and then i unzipped those files as per instructions for the loader and it came up. the usb im using is a 16gb flash formatted to ntsc and the files are all loading so far. if it was easy to just start over from virgin wii id go ahead and do it maybe some files didnt copy correctly for some reason the first time around. but from what ive read going back to virgin wii and starting over is possible but risky. ps i'll give your instructions a try as soon as i have a chance to put the loader files onto the usb and let you know how it goes. as difficult as it was for me it is running backups so not much i can complain about

this is the 2nd or 3rd time I'm telling u that the instructions never say to unzip anything. The instructions say to copy the contents of the copy_to_sd or copy_to_usb folders to your SD Card or USB HDD... if u did that, then all the files should've already been there

honestly, I'm very confused as to what u r doing... no disrespect intended, but u are not very clear... since u are using NTFS HDD, I'm assuming u have the USB-Loader files saved to an SD card. Also, it is important to note that for the homebrew channel to access apps on a FAT32 HDD while an SD card is in the wii, u need to press 1 and select to load from the USB (it will load from USB automatically if no SD card is found). And as I mentioned once earlier, no apps can be launched off of a NTFS HDD.

It sounds like the ModMii modding process went okay (since u are able to load games), and the USB-Loader setup process can be repeated from square 1 at any point without even touching the Wii. So there is absolutely no reason to rehack your Wii, if u want u can repeat the usb-loader setup guide... but as u said, its workign now, so if it aint broke don't fix it... However, I will reiterate one of the setbacks to storing games on NTFS... using the Wii to rip a disc to NTFS is buggy and can potentially lead to corrupting the files on your hard drive, u can always rip to a FAT32 HDD and then use WiiBackupManager to transfer to NTFS if u prefer, but if I were u I would NOT risk ripping a game to an NTFS hard drive using a usb-loader (there's a new app out there called clean rip that can do that though! I haven't tested it myself, but I've heard great things!)

Also, never ever ever attempt to virginize your wii, if u want to rehack it, just use the ModMii wizard and tell it that ur Wii is a virgin, the process to rehack a wii and to hack a wii for the first time is the same.

PS. how's your consience doing? lol

ModMii Needs Your Help!

A new homebrew app has been built specifically for ModMii.
If you would like to contribute an icon.png and a background for it please PM me for details!

Info on the app itself is being given on a need to know basis, but it should be included in the next ModMii update! YAY!

Note: If I get more than 1 person offering to help, I will select the images I like best. Thanks!

edit: its kind of sad that graphics work is the only thing holding up the next update/release! common ppl, help me out! I haven't even gotten 1 PM yet!

feels like you're getting impatient with me even though im clearly not complaining about the progress i have made. for some reason only after i loaded that file the zip which i got from another thread on this site for cfg usb loader 60 was it able to read the backup this was after trying everything else like i said. formatting using the backup utility to all formats, using the computer to format to fat32 in windows and doing that on both my 8gb micro sd inside regular sd adapter and on the 16gb usb flash drive. only after i unzipped it to the instructed folder did it start to work reading the iso. i never said your guide or software was flawed i just wanted to understand what mistake i might have made. my conclusion is some files must not have copied properly. theres a 2gb sd card in there now which has all the loaders and stuff so plenty room for homebrew there as well the 16gb ntfs formatted usb stick has plenty room. i will however format the usb to fat32 and see if it works sometime an attempt to use an sdhc 8gb microsd inside sd adapter to copy all the loader files to and use that. so whats an appreciated donation? as it is you have saved me about 60 dollars in hard mod supplies. btw theres no USB-Loader Setup feature in the menu :x

a donation of any size will be appreciated, I haven't gotten many donations so far (maybe 5 or 6 total)... but the ones I've gotten so far range in size from $1-$25. But honestly, u are under no obligation to donate, so u can give as much or as little as u like

And about getting frustrated... u still haven't really answered my Qs... so I may have gotten a little frustrated cuz I'm not sure what u are trying to do (and I don't like being confused! lol)... sorry about that, all in all, I'm happy for u to have gotten it working!

As to your problem, I think if u were to start from the beginning of the usb-loader setup guide, and take it slow, it will work for u perfectly. When u get around to it, if u have problems, please quote parts of the guide along with what went wrong and I'll do my bestest to help u out (plz see error reporting procedure on the first post).

Very great tool! It's the best homebrewinstaller I`ve ever seen. I had never installed the homebrewchannel faster on the Wii. :-)

yes u can, in fact, u can use the same sd card, and modmii will skip pre-existing downloads that have passed the verification checks, and missing or corrupt files will be redownloaded automatically. Good luck dude!

XFlak, is there a reason why the latest ModMii does not install the latest version of IOS46?

And what about IOS48 which is not installed at all.
