If original games don't work then your drive is broken or you have badly messed up your system.
Post a syscheck report so we can take a look at your system.

Syscheck report looks good.
You said all channels except for the homebrew channel don't work.
Also Mii Channel and Photo Channel don't work?
If so, what happens when you launch them?

@sevalle_xx, please edit your post to put your ModMii guide in a spoiler (see instructions at the bottom of the first post if you don't know how). Firstly, when you say it cannot play discs anymore, do you mean backup discs or original discs? If its a backup disc, u can play them using neogamma (assuming the Wii hardware is capable in the first place), if u want to play them via the disc channel, u need to install darkcorp (read the risks first, darkcorp isn't for everyone). USB Loading is much better than disc loading anyways, so u should just set up a usb-loader instead

You only NEED an SD card for initially modding the Wii, accessing bootmii, or accessing sneek/uneek. Everything else can be done with just a FAT32 hard drive.

Sorry bout that, I was looking for a spoiler button, should really add that into the edit textarea control.
I mean all type of discs, original and backup.

For backup, yes I will try NeoGamma. My Wii is old, bought in early 2009 so hopefully its capable. I will read up on DarkCorp. Neogamma seems to have a channel version as well btw.
I will try USB Loader also.

Remember, I just followed the guide exactly, I didnt install anything else at all.
The guide didnt mention to install DVDX for example, so I did not install it.
Is it needed? What else do I need?

Oh no... hope you're not referring to me. But just in case, how do I get a syscheck report?
Just a reminder, my Wii is Japan v3.1, and already modchipped. After ModMii, its now v4.1.

all non-white wii's have the new d3-2 dvd drives and cannot play backup discs.

u need a usb-loader to play backups of your games (originals still work from the disc channel). If u insist on playing backup discs, u will need to either replace the dvd drive with a non d3-2 model or install a modchip. USB-Loaders are infinitely better/faster anyways, so I recommend u use ModMii to help u set up your usb-loader.

Hows it going Xflak, I just got a wii about a week ago and I have been reading up about this trying to understand it before I delve into the greatness that is modmii BUT there are a few questions that I keep finding myself scratching my head over and they are:

1. I got my wii a week ago and I see that you have said all the black (and maybe red) wii's have the new d3-2 dvd drive and I can either full blown mod it or get a new dvd drive which seems too much of a hassle for me to get into at this moment.Well my question for this is, is being able to load it from an external hard drive or sd card out of the question because i have the new wii, or am I stuck having to go the long rout via new dvd drive or modchip.

2. How hard is it to mod a very new wii because it seems the old wii's were as easy as point and click, is it still that easy?I have been trying to read up but going through the 155 comments would take me ages to read through but ill go through it if thats what it takes.

3. Are there any up to date guides that would help me with the newer versions of the wii.

I appreciate what you are doing for the wii community and you seem to know more then I can ever imagine about this and if I do end up being able to get my wii on the right track with your help I will surely donate to your cause. Thank you so much in advanced and i'm look forward to your reply.

Yep,
When i try to run them, two things can happen:
  • news and weather channel: a black screen (just hangs with no message).
  • all other channels: An error message saying "an error has occurred. Press the eject button, remove the disk, and turn off the power to the console..."
the same message appears if I slide in an original game, or the if the wii starts with a disk inside.

Quite a mistery, no?
Tanks for all your help!

Ok, I have an idea how to solve your problem but right now I'm really busy at work.
Please be patient and I'll come back in a few hours with a possible solution.

Neogamma works! Damn...

So now, is the boot from Disc totally not gonna work anymore? (I mean the very first channel)

Is there a shortcut to click the Neogamma channel and run the DVD game right away? I just want to skip displaying the Neogamma menu, just so I can click Launch DVD game. Too many button presses now!

Also another nooby question, using Wii Backup Manager, after I transferred the files to the external USB HD, can I delete it from my PC?

Thanks!

Ok, I tried it myself and its still ok. I thought it was like Apples sync, which gave me so much headaches (and file redundancy!)

I just tried the USB Loader and its working beautifully. I dunno how to configure it at all so it looks bland.. the configurator has too much inputs... LOL. No matter.. but probably my last question would be how to set the games in the USB to always be in English? I have a backup copy of Donkey Kong Returns USA but the in game text are all in Japanese, whats more, it cannot render everything and just displays ????? for most options instead... how can i fix this?

I've seen your problem on a wii after using comex nand formatter and reinstalling only SystemMenu, SystemIOS, EULA, RegionSelect and a few Channels.
The Wii booted fine, but all the channels couldn't run properly.
So it's possible some crucial ios is corrupted.

Donwload this nus script: http://www.mediafire.com/?5a9l1497b5ii0zf
It contains all the original ios for 4.3E but SystemMenu, Boot2, BC, MIOS, EULA, RegionSelect, and channels

@Waffler69,
1) USB-Loaders work on ALL Wii's, so you're fine
biggrin.gif

2) Extremely easy, ModMii makes the process easier than ever
3) ModMii is an interactive guide, just use the wizard, answer the questions, and it will generate a guide taylored to your specific Wii
* If you decide to donate, make sure to ask me to tell you about ModMii's functional easter egg!

@sevalle_xx,
check out my autoboot mod of neogamma, it sounds like its what you're looking for:
http://gbatemp.net/t205141-neogamma-auto-boot-mod

If you hit 1 on a game in configurable usb-loader, it will take u to the game options menu, from there u can play with country settings... but u shouldn't need to often if ever. If the game truly is a USA game, then it should be in english already.

@alfabeto,
before trying davebaol's suggestion, I would recommend restoring your nand dump that u should have made before making any serious mods to your Wii. Restore the nand dump, then see if the problem is still there, if it is, do what davebaol has suggested, if the problem is gone after restoring your nand backup, just resoftmod your Wii from scratch and it should go smoothly

Yeah I'd recommend it too, but he said

For your knolodge, this time i didn't do a nand backup, (i know, i know) and i've gone to the procedure again (from the homebrew channel) twice before posting.

@alfabeto
if you want to minimize the possibility of a brick just avoid to install the last wad, thus 0000000100000050-NUS-v6944.wad
It's the unpatched system ios for your system menu 4.3, all remaining wad files are harmless if your wii has firmware 4.3 as shown in syscheck report.

Sweet.

Ok, I'll try that. Yeah, I found it weird myself cuz I thought the game follows its own language, not the consoles language.
Do you recommend using AnyRegion changer?
Can it be restored with my NAND backup.bin file to its almost virgin state?

@davebaol, I missed that, its a shame when ppl skip over the MOST important step. Anyways, before alfabeto does anything, he should at least make a nand backup. Even if his backup isn't in perfect working order, it can still be used to recover from full bricks (either using an infectus or with some amazing unreleased software... expect it to be released in a couple months
biggrin.gif
)

@sevalle_xx,
Regionchanging is a little dangerous, and as such I usually recommend against it. However, if done correctly, it is safe. I recommend you read up on it a lot before attempting it. And don't use the original any region changer... because it installs 3.2 during the region change, and newer wii's can't run 3.2 (running the official non-stubbed IOS30) so this could brick you. Instead either use the "Unofficial Modifications by QK" found here: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/AnyRegion_Changer which installs 4.1 instead of 3.2. Alternatively, you can try using WiiMod from here: http://gbatemp.net/t272321-wii-mod-v1-0?st=15

Again please be careful, if you region change incorrectly and u don't have bootmii @ boot2, you WILL brick. Make sure u have a nand backup, because then at least your Wii will ALWAYS be able to be repaired by DeadlyFoez and his infectus skills no matter what

Sounds dicey.. maybe I won't risk it just yet. Im quite satisfied with what Ive achieved and that was able to softmod, plus play thru USB Loader! Very nice!

Thank you so much and I will recommend to everyone I know about ModMii also.

The only thing that worked strangely for me following the ModMii guide was being unable to use the DISC channel.. and now relying on Neogamma. Fair trade-off since I got USB Loader now.

Again, tnx and more power.

When u say u r unable to use the disc channel, what do u mean? Do u mean it will not play original discs or do u mean it will not play backup discs? Or both? The disc channel should be able to play original discs. If you want your disc channel to be able to play backup discs, your wii must be old enough to have a non D3-2 dvd drive in it (otherwise it can't backup backup discs at all) and you must install darkcorp/cioscorp (which would've been overwritten by ModMii if u had it installed previously). If you have darkcorp/cioscorp installed and would NOT like ModMii to overwrite it the next time u use ModMii, disable ModMii's option to update active IOSs in ModMii's options. If you decide to install darkcorp, be sure to read about all the risks (included in darkcorp's readme files) because it does heavily modify your Wii.

enjoy!

Both original and backup discs are not able to play.
Only thru Neogamma it will play both also.

I think the Wii was old enough, it had a v3.1J before I tried to mod it.
It might be because of the modchip that Disc Channel is unusable now...
It's not a big problem though. I got a lot more than I lost really and it should be negligble now.
