For the most part it doesn't really matter that much. As long as you go with a better brand like Verbatim, and stay away from crap like Memorx, you'll be fine.

I realise disc basckups are becoming a thing of the past with usb loaders being all the rage, but jeez...

I actually use dvd-r too for playing backup gamecube games on the wii
so yep thats another use for you.

I also do use Verbatim DVD-R because it was recommended to me
by someone else in the temp who had a broken disk drive because
of using a poor quality dvd.

Any Verbatim-brand DVD-R works (no matter if it's lightscribe, printable, standard, etc. As long as it's Verbatim, it's good).
And try to avoid using DVD+Rs. I heard those are harder to read by the Wii.

I have never had a single issue with disks and always use whatever is on sale.............speed on the other hand is important...........slowest speed possible when burning.
