Oh, if you're in for a pure HARDCORE rpg.. then I say: Unlimited SaGa.... can be quite fun.. though I suck at it.. it's damn hard!

NES :
Final Fantasy 1

SNES :
Chrono Trigger
Secret of Mana
Seiken Densetsu 3 (Translated)
Final Fantasy 6 (aka 3 in the US)
Tactics Ogre
Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past

PSX :
Final Fantasy 7
Vagrant Story
Final Fantasy Tactics
Suikoden II

PS2 :
Disgaea
Okami
God of War 1, 2
Kingdom Hearts 1, 2
(I am going to try Grim Grimoire next, looks super good, maybe before Odin Sphere)

GBA : (Atlus Fan here...)
Yggdra Union
Riviera The Promised Land
Golden Sun
Tactis Ogre: Knight of Lodis
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance

DS :
Hotel Dusk: Room 215
Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales
Lunar Knights
Phoenix Wright

PC:
Baldurs Gate 1, 2
Neverwinter Nights 1, not so much 2
KoToR

That's all off the top of my head. I'm kind of disappointed that nobody mentioned Vagrant Story... and also that somebody said Azure Dreams, especially since one was super good and the other was god awful tedious. I just realized I am a loser since I know so many games. Also, some of these games crossover genres but I think can be considered RPGs moreso than it's "secondary" genre.

I have posted in these sorts of threads before and most of the games listed I can heartily recommend you play.

If RPGs are what you are after anyone with the remotest bit of knowledge knows Japan has great ones, most also know they never appear around here so a visit to http://www.romhacking.net/ is called for.

phantasy star 4, goes toe to toe with some of the early final fantasies and in many regards wins: better story, fighting system.

elder scrolls and might and magic series, I have a thing about open ended games.

vagrant story: reason 145452677 square (enix) can seemingly do no wrong. In my opinion pixel art does not date while the sort of graphics you see here do so come at it with an open mind.

I will mention Knights of the old republic, maybe not as good as some of the ones already mentioned but worth a play whether you like star wars or not. I have not played the second yet (despite it being on my shelf).

Deus Ex (original), an FPS with RPG overtones and a great story.

Edit: System Shock 2 and bioshock.

The list might very well go on but I will stop here.

oh man you're so right about vagrant story, i didin't think to mention it, but i disagree about Azure Dreams, i didin't find it tedious but i can see why some would say that.

YES. Greatest games ever. Please, everyone, go play this game. But stay away from Shining in the Dark, not that great of a game. But Shining Force 1, 2, and 3 for Genesis, man, go play those right now.

Did you ever play that remake of Shining Force that came out for the GBA a year or two ago? If so, what'd you think about it?

I thought you were talking about Shining Soul, and I go Wikipedia Shining Force, and there is a remake of it!!! How did I miss this?!!

lol, yeah. Shining Force: Resurrection of the Dark Dragon. All it is really is a graphical update and an addition of stats and a couple new characters you can add to your team (including this one dude that can use special cards that you find while traveling inside of battle. I think there's a different card for like every character, gotta catch 'em all. Didn't really use him in the game though, I didn't like him.) Pretty much the same thing as the original but it looks prettier. Plus it's cool to beat again [this time on the GBA, yet it brings back so many memories].

NES:
Dragon Quest series.

PCECD:
Ys I & II Eternal Story by Falcom, probably the best action adventure rpg ive played
wub.gif

SEGA SATURN:
Shining Force III by Camelot, all 3 scenarios.
I loved the way you could carry your save over through each game.
The same way you can with Camelot's Golden Sun series

PS2:
Dragon Quest VIII

Nah the air can do that
  • K3N1 @ K3N1:
Ask @x65943 he's trained for that stuff
  • JuanMena @ JuanMena:
Kissing random dudes choking in celery? Really? Need to study for that?

    Yes it requires a degree

I could also yank out the rest of my teeth but theirs professionals for that
  • x65943 @ x65943:
If your throat closes, putting oxygen in your mouth will not solve anything - as you will be introducing oxygen prior to the area of obstruction
  • JuanMena @ JuanMena:
    Just kiss me Kyle.
  • x65943 @ x65943:
You either need to be intubated to bypass obstruction or create a stoma inferior to the the area of obstruction to survive

It was waiting for you to order another one.
Seems like, your PSU was waiting for a partner.
  • JuanMena @ JuanMena:
    Keep them both
