DVD Decrypter and AutoGK to encode (XviD or DivX)

AVG antivirus works perfect
(Don't use a firewall cuz they slow everything down router plus windows firewall is plenty just monitor your ports

)

For themes use a patched uxtheme.dll and skin of your choice that will keep resourse usage to a minimum

Objectdock is a nice program to keep your desktop clean

Unlocker, great program that will detect and kill processes which have locked up a file you are trying to move or delete

7zip great open source compression/decompression tool

Alcohol 120% best drive emulator out there and alos a formidable cd writer

DVD related things: DVD Decrypter for ripping and sometimes burning, though Alcohol 120% and Nero are also good for burning. DVD Shrink is okay for compression.
Music: foobar2000, which is also an excellent audio player. I use Tag&Rename for tagging I don't want to do in foobar2000. And Exact Audio Copy is the only audio ripper you should ever use.
Video: I don't really convert video unless it's to DPG, then I use BatchDPG. For playing video: Media Player Classic and ffdshow.
Virus scanner: NOD32
Emulators: Mostly matters on the platform you want to emulate: N64 - Project 64, GBA - Visual Boy Advance, SNES - ZSNES, Scumm - ScummVM (duh

) etc.
Vista GUI: The best one I know of is Windows X's VTP.

Images: IrfanView is an excellent image viewer and can also edit images slightly too.
Torrents: uTorrent and PeerGuardian
Download manager: FlashGet
Text editor: Notepad++
Web browser: Either Opera or Firefox
Mounting images: DAEMON Tools
SVN updater: TortoiseSVN
IM: Either Gaim or Miranda IM
Compression: 7-Zip
Unlocker: Unlocker _>
FTP: SmartFTP
Anti-Spyware: Ad-Aware, Spybot: S&D

I could keep on going, but I'm lazy.

An alternative (an infinitely superior) pdf reader is foxitreader without question:
http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php

real and quicktime alternatives exist here:
http://www.free-codecs.com/

Trillian:
http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/

While it is not exactly the same Codemasterflex and I share the same views, search for ripit4me if you need a decent way to get around corrupted sector protection for DVDs and I use avisynth coupled with megui (.net I know) for all things video. Then I use a muxer for whatever container I want. I use CCCP for basic video playback:
http://www.cccp-project.net/

I will force myself to stop here though as this could go on for a long time,

Nero (and Alcohol 120% just in case) with Daemon manager for mounting images.

Video/Music Convertor:

Nod32. I use it to scan for viruses, since I never have an anti virus app running. Ever.

Favorite app;
winroll @ www.palma.com.au/winroll/

Irfan for image viewing/conversion
KDiff3 for comparing files
CCCP/Media player classic for video playback
Miranda IM for chat
SmartFTP
Notepad2
Flashget

edit-these kinds of thread ARE VERY BAD. This list could go on forever.
