Hacking best method to upgrade from 3.4

This wii i'm modding is at 3.4. Since that is so far away now i can only find guides going from 4.1 to 4.2. What would bethe best method to get this to the current firmware?

Official through nintendo and then use a 4.2 guide.

I've done it on four wiis now and never had a problem with the update causing a brick because of the new boot2 thats installed.

All four wiis had the older boot2 and were updated to the latest boot2 though nintendos update.

All are working fine.

isn't that a bad thing? doesn't it make mootmii installed as a boot 2 useless

Yeah, but you can just reinstall and rebackup afterwards.

Doesn't make it useless just gotta reinstall it after upgrading which is no big deal.
If you could install to boot2 before 4.2 update you will always be able to install it to boot2 doesn't matter which version boot2 you have because its your boot1 version that allows you to install it to boot2 and from what i understand there is no way nintendo can update boot1.
