    Hey everyone,

I have my switch at 3.0.0 and yesterday I installed atmosphere and a few homebrew apps. Since AMS and hekate are (afaik) compatible with every firmware to the date, and I was wondering what is the recommended FW version to upgrade to (if any).

I intend to use my switch for homebrew and backup loading, no online play at all (I have another one for that).

Update to 6.2 with choidujournx to don't get fuses burned.

I don't like the "don't burn the fuses thing" since it requires autorcm, and I'm forgetful enough to get my battery drained if I use it, or to accidentally burn the fuses if I don't. Let's leave it out of the equation for now, unless 6.2 has something really really worth it.

Upgrade your firmware when you find any game that requires it.

Fuses burning is important for every firmware upgrade since you will not be able to restore to stock NAND if your fuses was burnt with latest versions updates, leading to not being able to go back playing online without getting banned.
Anyway, as Taorn said, check homebrew apps system requirements and game system version requirements as well and upgrade as needed. Upgrade to 6.2 will not necessarily give the best features to your use.

Autorcm is the best way. With autorcm there is no forgetting. It will not boot normally. With 3.0 eventually you might get a jigless solution. But you miss out on great games. Just update. Fuseless. Its the best solution. That's why everyone does it. Then you can go back anytime.

The switch still charges in autoRCM. You could get SXOS and run EmuNAND......

OP has mentioned about the screen going black because of the RCM and he forgetting it there draining battery, thinking it is shut down but it's not due to the autoRCM.
This is OPs choice, I suppose, but yeah, I would still use autoRCM and just try to prevent the console from shutting down to not get confused if it's in RCM or not.

If you're afraid of rcm because you might not know if it's still in rcm mode after shutting off
Get a payload device, with hekate as a bootloader
When you want to shutdown the device, select restart instead instead of shutdown
Have the payload device plugged in and hekate will boot, and there you can turn your switch off completely.

I have a 2.2 switch for just homebrew and have not done anything with cfw yet. I always shut it down completely after playing Zelda on it since it’s not my main console (although, I turn off my main switch after each use as well since it is stored in a case and I don’t want it turning on while in the case).

Not sure so want to mess with autorcm either. I have SX, but have only used it to modify my Zelda save so far.

If you update with ChoiDujourNX and stay with AutoRCM, you can have latest fw (6.2.0 rn) with the possibility to came back anytime you want to 2.2

But, do I need to leave it on all the time with autorcm?

    So much misinformation.
    1. NO you don;t have to leave the Switch on all the time with AutoRCM enabled. If you shut it off you will need to use a method to boot it though. You can use a Jig with a PC/MAC with a USB-C cable, A Jig with An Android with a OTG/USB-C cable or a Jig/Dongle. You can acquire a Jig/Dongle for less than $10.
    2. YOU CAN CHARGE YOUR SWITCH IN AUTORCM!! The dock won't work if it's in RCM mode but the charger will charge it slowly if you plug it in directly.
    3. YOU CAN RESTORE YOUR SYSTEM TO WHATEVER YOUR SYSTEM VERSION WAS BEFORE YOU UPDATED. As long as you updated using ChoiDuJourNX and enabled AutoRCM to prevent the fuses from burning. It's not permanent.
    4. IT"S DIFFICULT TO MESS UP. Once AutoRCM is enabled "Accidentally" booting in to horizon and burning your fuses is VERY DIFFICULT TO DO. It would have to be intentional pretty much.
    5. It has MANY ADVANTAGES. That's why the whole scene does it.. You can keep the possibility of downgrading in the future and still be able to play great games that need higher firmware.
Or you can let fear dictate what you do and wait to play SMO, Zelda DLC, Smash and any other game higher than 3.0.0. OP Just update and play with your damn switch.

Switch can charge in RCM, yes. The problem is it can't shutdown from Horizon if AutoRCM is enabled, it will reboot into RCM instead. RCM mode and shutdown state are visually identical (screen is powered off), but in RCM the battery will slowly drain without any kind on control until depletion, which is *really* bad for the battery life an can cause some other problems.

So my point is that having to send a fusee payload to power off the switch is a pain, and the possibility of draining the battery if I forget the switch in sleep mode for too long is something to take into account.

On the other hand, I could upgrade burning the fuses and #yolo. Staying on 3.0.0 is not an option since most games will simply not run.

There really isn't a "best" firmware to be on. Currently you can play all available games and updates on 5.1.0. There will come a time when you will have to upgrade to 6.x. If you don't care about fuses, go ahead and update and burn them. That's exactly what I did. People that say you can't go back to say 5.1.0 are both right and wrong. Any CFW bypasses the fuse check, this means that if you have 8 fuses burned (6.2.0) you could use ChoiDuJourNX to install 5.1.0 and use Atmosphere/ReiNX to boot it and it would work fine. Hell you could downgrade to 1.0.0 if you wanted to do something dumb and pointless. You just wouldn't be able to boot OFW.

TL;DR: Update to whatever you want. AutoRCM or don't. Your choice. Pretty much everything works on 6.2.0 right now.

Well, that is also somewhat false
you can turn it off and it will reboot into RCM sure
but you can still shut it off 100% if you either hold the power button for a couple of seconds or boot into hekate and use the shutdown function there.
If you do this the battery will NOT drain.

But what is recommended, when I would like to play online? Should I backup my NAND, update with ChoiDuJourNXm then boot ofw with autorcm and then go online?
