I've been struggling with etrian odyssey 3 for a while now, trying to find the best party comprised of the starting classes(the ones already unlocked)

so far I've been using

FRONT ROW
a gladiator - for the damage ofcourse
a prince - for the heals and medium damage

BACK ROW
a monk - for the heals
a farmer - for gathering,XP bonus and teleport to city
an arbalist - for great back row damage

but it just seems stupid to me to not have one of those wizards in my party.
ninja, wildling and hoplite don't really do anything special in my opinion...

what's your opinions on this matter and how should I level up my characters?
how do you unlock all the other classes?

You pretty much have the same party I do minus the farmer(mines a zodiac),there really isn't a "best" party, you can train doing sea quest missions if you need exp but the only other thing I can say is make sure you upgrade your armor when ever possiable...

i suggest adding a Hoplite in there and get Provoke up a few levels they have some nice defence and nice attack and its a good way to let your true damage dealers and healers not get attacked as much

Also a ninja is nice for increasing your dps and they have a skill that can is similar to provoke except they point to someone on your team that the enemy is more likely to attack

your team is fine but your losing valuable damage with the farmer there

you should do all 5 farmers, max out the XP farming. also fill your guild with other parties, utilizing the "combat learning" or whatever it's called, so they can get xp just sitting there. later you can switch to them when you're tired of xp farming. when the farmers get older, retire them.

Hmm, both are interesting points. I spend about an hour a day on this game just grinding enough so I can move to next area, I'll keep this in mind

Do the farmer's XP ability stack on top of each other? Meaning do the benched people gain xp 5 times?

yes if your party is all farmers with earth's bounty, it stacks. right now my main party like level 10, and everyone in the guild house is level 7. i ended up swapping out farmers for real party members cause the farmers couldn't compete. but meanwhile, everyone in the guild house has level 9 in the combat learning skill. if i could get them to level 30...then retire them, that'd be awesome.
