Which devices do you guys prefer to use currently to play GBA games? I tried to play the other day on my Nintendo DS Lite but the bellow screen was to small and I felt a bit awkward. I also tried to play on my Android cellphone but I really missed physical buttons. I want to keep it portable so playing on PC is not really an option. Any suggestions?

3DS injects on my XL are my favorite, since it's not actually emulated, it's 100% accurate (and I don't care about stuff like savestates or speedups.)

Not 100% accurate tho, some games have slight slowdown issues and unless you tweak the save type of the rom before injecting, your games wont save.

To the op, a psp is a cheap and nice option, you have a wide range of emulators for you enjoyment, but if you own a smartphone already, try to get a joystick, you have even more emulators here and even higher compatibility.

Nah, no chance. The injects just use the built-in GBA firmware. The worst that could happen is a game that doesn't run.

I play on my 3DS, since it can run GBA natively. There's also mGBA which works pretty well on the New 3DS.

Worst case scenery, if the cia installs but it is a bad inject, the game would crash and you would have to force a shut down and then try again with another inject. The system wouldnt brick.

GBA emulation on any old 3DS model is a little janky but you can still do native injects.
I have an old 2ds as well but I don't think it's as good as the XL for playing GBA, since the dpad is not nearly as nice d:

Not sure about emus on old 3ds/2ds systems, but i have read that mgba have increased its perfomance and compatibility even for the old systems, but dont expect anything good tbh. Your best bet is to keep searching for gba injects.

I prefer the AGS101 for the larger (and also backlit) screen, or even better on the TV with the Gameboy Player. But yeah, gotta wonder why everyone's answers here aren't the obvious .. actual GBA hardware with a decent display (AGS-101, Micro, Gameboy Player, DSPhat*, DSLite).

*ok, DSPhat ain't so great in the display department. Great dpad and buttons though.

The OP wanted a larger screen and portability so most of those obvious answers were out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
