Hardware Best chip for use with Wlip?

Hopefully, the WLip adapter will be available in the early part of this new year, and, if it is, I'll certainly be picking one up. It's the "magical" device I've been waiting for. That said, I still don't know what chip to opt for to be used with the WLip. I currently use a CycloDS Evo card for my DS, so -- after having such good experience with their support -- looking at their CycloWiiz chip is an obvious thing to do. However, from what I understand, you have to boar out a square space in the rear of the Wii to accomodate a dipswitch. The reason I'm so excited for the WLip is because it requires absolutely no modification to the Wii system itself. So, with that in mind, what chip(s) do you folks suggest as the best solution -- that requires no modification -- for use with the WLip?

CycloWiz requires you to make an hole in the case and put a switch externally to update. Go for a Wiikey.

v2 is old. If you want Winnja, go for Deluxe.
Or go open source with YAOSM.
Or any other chip. You can connect the wires to any chip. You can even use an Atmega chip and put the Wiikey code on it.

I'm not familiar with these open-source chips, but my main reason for the interest in the Wiinja chip is because it won't require soldering to the Wlip. I'm looking for a 100% solderless solution, and since the Wiinja only has the eight pins, it supposed to plug right into the Wlip without any additional modification.

Does anyone know if the Wiinja chip also has a the ability to bypass Nintendo's latest disc scan thing I've been reading about. Supposedly, there was some update for certain chips that sends back the information to Nintendo via online to make it seem that a copied disc is a regular retail disc. I'm very new to Wii mods (though I've been using a DS flash card for a bit), so I'm still getting my feet wet. But the Wlip has encouraged me to finally take the plunge.

Hmm...I was under the impression that an 8-pin chip would require no soldering at all. I checked to see what type of Wii I had (according to Nintendo Scene), and it's supposed to be (in all likelihood) a D2B unit. If I did my research correctly, the Wiinja should work okay with my system, but I'm not sure about what you're saying when it comes to being compatible with the Wlip. According to the Wlip site, the chip should be compatible. However, I'm not sure if I'll still be required to solder the chip to the Wlip.

In any case, the Wlip isn't out yet. The official site has it scheduled for release (I believe) on the 21st of this month. Just trying to get all my ducks in a row, so to speak.

) and am wondering which modchip to use with it. I've been looking to get an official wiikey+triwing screwdriver (which is needed, right?) bundle for about $30 bucks, but now I'm looking for a cheaper method. The Wlip might be $40 on it's own, and I don't want to spend another $30 on top of that.

Could someone tell me what modchips are compatible with the Wlip without soldering/welding anything? That's the whole reason I want the Wlip so I don't have to do any soldering. So I definitely don't want to buy something I'd have to solder. I need something a dope like me could figure out. I'd be very appreciative of any recommendations on what chip to get to use with the Wlip, and where to buy the chip at.

I was looking at YAOSM and couldn't figure out what it is exactly...is it a modchip itself? It's probably not the one for me anyways since I read it doesn't work with gamecube audio or something like that. I want to be able to play Gamecube backups without any problems also.

3. YAOSM is simply code. You burn it onto a chip (that you have to happen lying around, of course!), and install it in your Wii.

I believe, all 4 modchip names mentioned, would require no soldering at all. Though, only the Wiinja Deluxe is actually a modchip . The rest are just source code so you would require a chip to program it onto.

You would definitely require the triwing screw driver, as there is no other way to open the wii to connect the Wlip.

Of those, only Winnja deluxe is an actual chip itself.
The others are indeed only code. But chips for them are very cheap and easy to come by.
WiiFree is no longer in development, so that's not interesting (doesn't even have the fix for SMG)
OpenWii has switched to the Atmega chip, which won't fit into the Wlip socket (but you can connect the wires with some soldering). There is a 'crippled' version for PIC's, but the latest releases only come out for Atmega.
YAOSM is pretty good, I'm using that too. It's still in active development.

Only thing I'm still confused about is the non modchips, the "only code" ones like YAOSM. You say chips for them are very cheap and easy to come by. I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about. What do these 'chips' look like? I guess you just somehow attach the YAOSM to this chip without soldering? Kinda confusing. Thanks.

You buy a "blank" chip, and copy the YAOSM or any other code on it with a chip programmer.

Maybe someone could inform you better than me, since I never did this...
