Menuhax

Pros:
- a easy process to install and setup it

Cons:

- runs on sysnand
- low bootrate, maybe 75%
- it was made to homebrews not to cfw

A9LH

Pros:

- load ARM9 payloads
- runs before sysnand
- a emunand is not required
- dont need a hardmod to unbrick
- faster boot to cfw
- 100% bootrate
- Fix 3D bug on n3ds

Cons:
- long process to install it and with a certain risk of brick

I haven't heard about this. I might try it! I'm using Menuhax with a boot selector 3dsx and modified payload.

Using socketpunch along with FBI to install cias over wifi is far, FAR faster than installing them from your sd card.

Edit: Unless you have incredibly poor wi-fi speeds.
Socketpunch is really slow. Average is under 1MB/s. So a basic Pokémon Installation would need 30 min. I do not see the advantage except for ppl that really want to fill up their devices.

That's certainly not the speed I get.

I have a new 3ds on a9lh... I'm wondering if for some reason the SD was formatted and there are no backup nands and otp.bin file is deleted from PC etc.

Is there anyway to boot the 3ds up to just normal mode?

Use CakesFW without any of the patches enabled

I'm pretty sure you just need an Arm9loaderhax.bin. But why the fuck did you delete your OTP? Literally the worst decision you could have possibly made.

23/04/2016 - 18:41:32 - Success! Project Mirai DX.cia sent in 25:12 minutes at average 1544KB/s

That game is 2.2GB. There's no chance in hell that installing it from SD would only take 25 minutes. And no advantage? The superior speed and not having to copy the file to your SD card are both pretty strong advantages. Not sure where you get the under 1MB/s average from, but it's wrong... unless a persons UL speed is equal to or slower than that.

The official socketpunch thread here is full of ppl only getting 300kb/s. Although I got 2,3 MB/s, installing from the card is way faster for me. Pokemon was done in 15 minutes.

If anyone gets that low of a speed it's either due to their isp having bad upload speed, not a very good router, or user settings/user error. Which Pokemon are you speaking of, and what did you use to install it?

What does my upload have to do with it? I am installing over wifi as everybody else. No isp involved. Traffic is routed through NAT locally. Pokémon AS - tried socketpunch, was too slow for me. Then the usual way directly through FBi. Was fine as always.

You are absolutely correct on the wifi part, no idea what I was thinking there. Something confuses me though. If you were getting 2,3 MB/s with Socketpunch it would have been finished in less time than the 15 minutes you said it took from SD using FBI because it took 20 minutes for me @ 1.5MB/s.

those speeds are not average speeds. and transfer speeds are not necessarily installation speeds. We do not have a clue what gets unpacked, installed etc.

for example: de-compressing a large .rar in multiple containers should be done in seconds (a movie for example from HDD1 to HDD2 with a size of 10 gig). but it does take minutes because it was compressed and de-compression takes its time.

Haven't deleted it, just a what if scenario... Like if someone else bought the 3ds and did not know what all the files were etc.

So just to get it right. 3ds is still bootable even without otp.bin and other hax files. Just need armloaderhax.bin on the root of the SD card?

I'm pretty sure, but if you are planning on selling the 3ds you can remove a9lh by restoring a pre-a9lh NAND backup.
