    From NME.com:

Speculation is mounting that The Beatles' back catalogue will finally become available to download tomorrow (April 2).

Apple have called a press conference at the EMI label headquarters tomorrow, where boss Steve Jobs will make a major announcement about iTunes.

The Beatles and Apple recently settled a long-running legal dispute over use of the Apple brand name, clearing the way for a deal to be struck over the digital release of their music. Since EMI own the band's catalogue, insiders are predicting that this deal will be announced tomorrow.

Beatles music has never been available to legally download before. Recent changes in chart rules allowing downloads to count towards the singles chart have prompted speculation that when it is, the band's music could dominate the top 40.

Depending on the details of tomorrow's news, this could now happen as early as next Sunday.

NME never does these jokes, plus its been rumoured for ages (especially since Beatles artwork were shown on the iPhone announcement). Also April Fools ends at 12pm here in UK and its a UK site and the story was posted at about 4pmish.

If it is true than our single charts are just gonna be raped by Beatles songs, kinda feel sorry for those groups/artists who would've had their first hit single but knocked out but these mop topped genious songs.

So the Apple versus Apple law suit has been settled then? (Apple computers versus Apple Recordings, a record publishing company owned by the (surviving) Beatles.)

Yup, it was Lovely Rita the song used on the iPhone presentation.
I hope they make 5.1 versions of every album, that´s another constant rumour.

That would be nice, I also hope it would bring the CD prices down, HMV near me charges £18 for most Beatle albums. Though I have all of them on vinyl would be nice to get some nicer sounding versions from the torrent sites [IMG]

Hmm mp3search.ru and allofmp3 not ringing bells I guess then.

No strong opinions either way on this one, much like the music I guess.

The only way I've been getting beatles albums were through.. actually buying them.
With the advent of beatles songs available for download (... through the itunes store...), I can finally be happy.

I remember reading something about the beatles wanting their tracks be exclusively available on the itunes store for a higher price.

And this is why we ignore the singles chart, it's full of shit and marketing cashcows. Downloads started to make it better, they had a chance at getting our attention again, but if record companies are just going to flood it by re-releasing worn out outdated crap like this then they're just going to shoot themselves in the foot. It's a shame really.
