I got a Switch on 2.1.0 that I barely used (only played Zelda). Now that emuMMC is released I wanted to give it a go. My plan was to use Pegascape, backup the NAND, then use an up to date emuNAND to play games while keeping my sysNAND on 2.1.0 (or at least <= 4.1.0) to retain warmboot capability.

So I bought a SD card, prepared all the files and put it in the Switch. Switch tells me it has to reboot when changing the SD card. After the reboot my battery suddenly shows only 1% remaining (was 100% before, charged all night). Awesome. I read online that there's a battery calibration problem for Switches below FW 3.0.1. I verified that this is the case by recharging, playing Zelda and then taking a look at the battery indicator. It drained very fast, then remained on 1% but I could play for 3-4 hours.
The official fix proposed online seemed to work (let battery run out and charge to full multiple times), the battery indicator showed the real state once again.. That is until I rebooted my console to see if it's really fixed. Battery on 1% again. *sigh*

Now here are my questions:
1. Is there any easy way to fix this on 2.1.0? I read that Hekate does a battery recalibration. Will that fix my problem?
2. Is it safe to run Pegascape -> Caffeine -> Hekate and then do a NAND backup even though the battery is not calibrated correctly?
Can I brick my console if the Switch shuts down during NAND backup?

Answer: Nope, it's only a read operation! I just did my NAND Backup and everything worked fine.
3. Would you recommend to update to a higher firmware? Which one? Any downsides to 4.1.0?
4. How would I do this when the battery is not calibrated?
ChoidujourNX seems risky to me in case the Switch does something stupid because the battery is "depleted". Should I buy an external charger for the Switch and keep it plugged in?
Or is it better to buy a game that then installs the FW update?

Answer: Was a stupid question. The Switch ships with a charger. I used it for the docking station and forgot about it.

I could not find any answers to this on the internet. Seems like I'm one of the few people who experienced this problem :(

You should have an “external charger” already, it’s just a usb-c charger that came in the box with switch. Make a nand backup first (it only reads from switch so can’t do any harm) and you will be able to restore to that state if something doesn’t go as planned.

Woops, you're right. I forgot that the docking station was just connected with that usb-c charger. Thanks!

@nitr8, If you consider open-sourcing this, then I'm sure somebody could point out the bugs for you in the repository, such as walking through step-by-step on what it's doing.

I have 2 USB Gecko's. I'm using one for debug printout messages while I use the second one for realtime debugging within Eclipse where I make changes to the code

@nitr8, Ah good, having two is always handy.

Not sure why you'd want to, but it's a good thing at least.
  • nitr8 @ nitr8:
You need two if you want realtime-debugging AND debug printout at the same time. The problem is that GDB (the GNU debugger) needs a connection over a serial port while the other one also needs a connection over a serial port. You cannot send debugging commands and printout messages over the same port. It just wouldn't work. I've tested this.

I should probably see if I can run this natively on a PC using the original commits where I pulled the code from. Basically the repository is the same but the commits were different when it comes to the main game code and the engine overlay...

BTW: I saw you mentioned me in the link to the ROTT wall bug where a moving wall exits the game map.

The original developers put an image into the code which would be shown once this bug happens. It's the one you see at the end of the video and it's also the same image I'm using as an avatar.

Anyway, I hope BLOOD will finally make it's way onto the Wii. I ported DOOM, HERETIC, HEXEN, STRIFE, ROTT and HEXEN II before years ago. I simply cannot imagine that it's too hard to get the game
    running stable.

If I just had the chance to live-stream the running game on the Wii...
