Hacking Bannerbomb Query

I have the latest firmwar, and used Bannerbomb.

If I run a backup game that normally attempts to do a system update, will it kill my Wii?

Wil I need to block updates? How would I do that?

There is no risk of brick as long as you updates with games of your region.
Also, you have the latest firmware so it's very unlikely you'll have to update even with imports.

You can block updates using Preloader or StartPatch. I prefer StartPatch as it's much more bug free and silent.
