Banjo-Kazooie to release on Nintendo Switch Online January 20, 2022

It was announced last month that Rare's 3D platforming hit Banjo-Kazooie will be coming to the Nintendo Switch Online program, and a release date was announced just today. The game will be available for those with the NSO Expansion Pack, that allows Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis games to be played, on January 20, 2022. This release is significant as Banjo-Kazooie was released during Rare's tenure as a second-party partner with Nintendo before Microsoft's acquisition of Rare in 2002. As such, Banjo-Kazooie has never been released on any of Nintendo's virtual console programs, and has only recently made his long-awaited debut in the Nintendo crossover series Super Smash Bros. However, in recent years, partnerships between Microsoft and Nintendo have become more common, ending the long drought of Banjo's absence from Nintendo's platforms.

N&B is a native 360 game, so it would probably need a full port. So I doubt it will happen unless the source code is leaked or someone completely REs it, both of which I also doubt.

IIRC even MS’s emulator felt sluggish on the Xbone.
MS has tried to work out a partnership with Nintendo, but the big N has turned them down. Strange that MS is the most gamer-friendly company now.

This makes the Xbox Goldeney Remaster release look a lot more likely. It would appear they reached a deal on acces to multiple IP

Question is, will Goldeneye be released on the Switch too?

Too bad this doesn't have any of the Xbox improvements, like actually saving music-note collection counts upon leaving a world instead of needing to collect all 100 or so of them in one go...as far as I know, anyway.

Nope, this is the original N64 version, flaws'n'all.

Nintendo's stubbornness. Microsoft's open to let Nintendo use the superior version, but they don't want.

Who end up getting punished in all of this? Customers as they get an inferior product when a better one exists.

can't believe it, but rare replay is on game pass as well. I'm downloading it along with the extra xbox series games, which in total is like nearly 70GBs.

What did you expect, a new Nintendo 64 game?
They could offer the superior version.

For example, Red Dead Revolver on Xbox One / Series was improved so they can play an improved port than the original one.

Of course, it's Nintendo so fans get bottom of the barrel quality.

I just tried banjo kazooie on the series x. widescreen, and it looks damn good for a game from the 90s:

it has a stop n swap replacement, not the feature how it was originally planned. also the n64 emu is nowhere near being "garbage", but its just another excuse to shit on a service you werent interested in in the first place anway. its also quite interesting to see how revisionist some people like to be to handwave problems of older versions to make the newer ones seem worse. taking banjo kazooie as an example the xbox version has texture issues that were never fixed, which you can compare with the trailer for the nso version already, like tootys shirt in the intro. but no, microsoft can do no wrong, right ;P

Oh you mean you wanted the baby version rather than the original version? This is whats wrong with gamers today. Rather have the game holding your hand rather than putting in the work on your own.

Long absence..... but here you go, have an old title we dont give a sh1t about, says Microsoft.

Nintendo getting the dregs of the barrel. You know what would make sense, if nintendont did what RA are aiming towards and letting gamers play their original n64 carts via its emulation.

But no doubt nintendonts legal team will crack down on anyone selling the adapters, like they did with c2m which I think was also added in the case against Gary.
