Hacking Bad Programmer or Bad Chips?

I had a friend build me 2 Chiips and a programmer and nothing works. avrdude (windows version with giveio installed) doesn't flash anything. I tried PonyProg2000 and TwinAVR, again nothing. I went ahead and built my own programmer thinking his was a dud and nothing. I swapped out the 5 pins for power with a USB mouse cable (red wire connected directly), and still nothing.

I removed everything from one chip (ATMega8L-8PU) and it doesn't work. I left the other one untouched and that doesn't work.

Is there a way I can shove an LED into the programmer to check if it's receiving power?

Is the LED supposed to be on when the Chiip is plugged in and the Wii is on?

yea led is a solid on if all ok, blink if error when installed on wii

try openwii, you wont get slowdowns on wario or other games chiip hasnt been updated in forever so i kinda switched to openwii

I already beat WarioWare (Bought it and sold it). I'm content with Chiip, it'll be updated eventually. If OpenWii reads DVD+R without bitsetting, I'll switch.
